Oh norris
You have chosen to call me out, once again. Are you still upset over the vintageandmoderninc thread, where you called me out for contradicting myself? I've posted the link below so everyone can read it.
You are upset because you think I was opposed to vintageandmoderninc, and not opposed to 1stdibs. But that is NOT the case:
In actuality, I am opposed to the vintageandmoderninc thread in and of itself, as it was commercial promotion in disguise. This thread, was started as a discussion how lousy 1stdibs was, far from promoting it. I think LRF would agree with me on that, yes? I never called for this thread to shut down. I voiced my opinion, and LRF and room_606 voiced theirs, and despite our differences, I never called for the end of discussion. It was a good healthy exchange. Can you tell me where in the vintageandmoderninc thread that there was a healthy exchange of ideas and opinions?
Listen Norris, I apologize if you got upset. I wanted to let you know how those commercial threads hurt Patrick and Alix and the forum.
To quote Patrick and Alix, the great couple who run this forum:
"Our position should not prevent the freedom of expression on the forum. But on the other hand, we insist that you avoid promoting online shops on the forum! Advertising is present enough on the Internet, we think it is necessary to preserve discussions spaces without commercial ulterior motives."
There is plenty of freedom of expression in this thread, I'm all for a good debate. But the vintageandmoderninc thread was not that at all.

the beloved , Norris et al
I appreciate all threads about everything.... nothing that is decent and appear to the pureant interest should ever be censored. This forum has lots of different Threads and lots of diversity (yea) With lots of peole who want to say things that they think pertain about design. This forum is not about ones sexuality, relationships, self help programs, love lost, It is suppose to be about all concepts of design good, bad, and ugly.
In this country the USA we have worked to damn hard and fought to hard to protect our rights of free Speech so i think anything goes here in the Desgin world.

ah, monsieur Poupshous!
It is Tuesday before the firstdibs email blast so he must be at the flea (with camera) in the thick of it.
I have put Detective Cleauseu on it. And it does seem Monsieur Poupshous has done a not-so-small irritable pouppee on this unsuspecting flea market settee. (There is no outhaus when it is all an outhaus.) Poupshous was here.

Comparing ebay and 1st dibs...
Comparing ebay and 1st dibs is wrong.1st dibs is expensive and it is easy to buy most of those items cheaper if you do some searching but you cannot compare an auction site to a shop. Most antique dealers buy at auction and then double or treble the price, which is exactly what the dealers on first dibs do.But as the dealer who spoke in this thread stated they spend some time putting together collections that they feel strongly represent their shops image.

Msr Michael Poupster notwithstanding
There are some good pieces on that site that show up now and then. This California Design chair is rather more suited to a museum than the regular firstdibs bogus offerings. Sadly it is sold already. I hope more of this shows up at a fair price.

"new wealth store
I love this site.It provides me with a lot of information when buying stuff.
My opinion over 1stdibs is a bit ambivalent. They have great antiques but a lot of kitch.I lived in N.Y. and now i live in europe. This is the meca for antiquing.I love the exitement of finding something wonderfull in a dusty curio from a local antique's shop in an unknown city.A luxurious website like that takes all the exitement away.I think the website is more for "the new rich"who have the cash and want the stuff now. This new wealthy people spend money for the exitement of spending it.People who have allways had money spend their money carefully that's why they are still rich. They would rather take a plane to Paris and go to the dealers themselves. This reminds me of a friend of mine who went on a european cruise and bought a Dali silkscreen in the cruise's antique shop. When i see in the 1stdibs the prize of an antique world's map in german($995 )it just amazes me.There is no problem in spending you money on nice things but, instead of giving away your hard earned cash to a N.Y. dealer who gets richer every day,i would rather give it to charity and the rest i would use on a european trip where i can visit these dealers in person.

I think 1st dibs is a great...
I think 1st dibs is a great resource and I use it all the time to look up stuff.Sure almost everything is overpriced and quite often the attributions are wrong buy all in all I like it.
I have actually also purchased a table through one of the dealers there and I reckon I got a bargain.I had already haggled with the guy and was "thinking it over" when in fact I was waiting to bid on the same item at a live auction, the live auction item sold for 2200 to someone else and I bought it from 1st dibs for 1000.The one I missed at auction then turned up on 1st dibs for 4500.
Happy days 🙂

the dude that owns 1st dips ...
the dude that owns 1st dips is hoping that anyone will buy him, and he can make a big buck . he claims that he does more business than all the big major auction houses , which is bull crap.
They get full credit for all buy sells and recorded sales, this guy just gages his sales and tells you what he thinks you want to hear, I doubt ebay would even fool with him,
