Are MIT Professor Maeda and his ten laws of simplicity familiar to most designers at DA? If not, designers ought to at least give them a look. They seem relevant, if wrapped in a bit of commercial hustle (he's trying to sell a book).
The current Wired (p.64) has an interesting analysis of a Sony video cam that shows how Sony's design allegedly violates many of Maeda's "laws" for simplicity.
