In search of the era/ style name and possible designer.
Information with regards to the reference pictures welcome
thanks
Could you please give us a bit more background? What do we see here? I get a rough idea on how the chairs look like but certainly it would be nice to know a bit more about the place and the pictures.

Hi @herringbone
The scene is 1950's post-war South Africa. A tea room. The furniture probably dates from the 1930's. The lumber industry and local craftsmanship is probably to credit for the design construction. There's traces of art deco, arts & crafts, lesser so art nouveau. The bun foot on both the tables and chairs is significant as well as the pierced splat finished with a distinct top rail (its attachment to the legs with a brass pin??).
I'm interested in the colonial legacy - the institution of these tea rooms: the social protocol. I am looking for the formalised characteristics of tea room furniture ie. typical chair and table dimensions.
Objects that shape and influence human behaviour is my field of interest (Behaviour by Design)
thanks
Wow. That is quite some background. I hope that somebody can help you here, I certainly can't, because I have absolutely no clue about how people in South Africa furnished anything in the 1930s. Maybe they imported stuff from Europe? Great Britain? Germany? The feet are not uncommon for the time.
