There is strong evidence that points towards this bar cabinet being designed by Kurt Ostervig for KP Mobler. Apparently this piece was originally sold with a pair of black laminate top side tables, which were stored in the space under the cabinet volume, between the legs. You can find a few examples of this via google searches. A few of these side tables retain their labels which clearly state Ostervig/KP as designer/manufacturer. However, I have yet to find this label on the actual bar cabinet itself. While logic would indicate that the designer/manufacturer are the same, it could be that a retailer put these two designs together, rather than the designer/manufacturer (similar to how Moller dining chairs were often sold with Dyrlund tables here in the US). And indeed, I’ve seen two cabinets with the Illums Bolighus label still attached.
Both Bruun-Rasmussen and Bukowskis auction houses have labeled previous lots of this cabinet as Kurt Ostervig for Jason Mobler, but no labels were mentioned in the listing nor photos provided.
While there is no smoking gun, I would chalk this design in the 90% confidence bracket for Ostervig and maybe a little less for KP Mobler (it’s hard to go against Bruun-Rasmussen without any hard evidence). Does anyone know if Jason and KP merged at some point, a la France and Son and Cado? Maybe both manufacturer attributions are correct?
