I have this set of 4 tulip bar stools. There are no markings as far as brand. I’m wondering if they are a certain brand name.
I don't know anything about Arkana and their marking practices but this pair is marked as shown in lower right, and have some differences in design, such as the fitment of the sleeve that covers the seat to stem connection.
I always considered these to be knockoffs and, as such, never gave them a second glance. Now, I find out that they are knockoffs of knockoffs? Too funny! Thx, @mark737!
Yes, speaking of knockoffs, I noticed there are marked Arkana sets like this with the "propeller" base. I always thought Burke Inc of Dallas was responsible for this design (made famous on Star Trek). Did Burke Inc steal this design from Maurice Burke, as they did the designs by Saarinen? Was there any connection between Maurice Burke and Burke Inc, or is the name just a coincidence?
@mark737.@tktoo2 There is a Burke Inc. trade catalogue, from 1963, for sale in the UK. Naturally not ALL of the pages are shown so I couldn't tell you if Maurice Burke is mentioned. ( the seller only posted 5 out of a total 36 pages; I can post the rest if you like?)The bar stools with footrest do not feature, so maybe that was a later edition/addition. Posting image for "anchored" counter stools.
The OP's chairs are wrong in a lot of ways. IMHO
Knowledge shared is Knowledge gained
Found this set sold by MetroRetro, and there's another pair for sale on Etsy that looks to be same maker. Both say 1960's vintage but list no maker name. Looks like some unknown maker produced these unmarked replica versions back in the 60's or 70's.
