Hello, this is my first post here! I'm hoping someone can help me identify this chair. I got a set of four at an estate sale, and noticed the swivel is marked "1966 Seng, Chicago." I know that this is the type of swivel used by Charles Eames, but it does not seem to be typical of his work, at least that I can tell. I thought the handle at the top of the back was pretty unique looking. The back is also leather. I tried to show the joints in one of the photos, I'm not sure if any other info will help. Thank you for any input you can offer!

No on both questions.
Respectfully,

(Edited) Sidenote. My dear mother has a fondness of handbag creations (small, medium and large..in most colors) by Palm Beach resident Lana Marks. Your bar stools remind me of the aforementioned sartorial accessories. Lana likes an occasional drink, so why not start by contacting her, or buying her a drink, or buying one of her handbags.
ps. I wouldn't know what kind of cocktail to serve guests perched upon your 4 stools, and I'm seldom at a loss in situations like that. Pink Sqirls are a good choice. Good Luck!
(another edit):
Perhaps I mean Chanel. Put them on eBay as designed by the "House of Chanel". And serve a shot a single malt and a European cigarette to your prospective buyer. Tell him... You just never know. Keep us posted!
"nice" is a subjective word, which I will refrain for using in this case.
These stools would blend in nicely in a few old skool bars in my hood. However, as they say on Antiques Roadshow, the value in them lies purely in their functional and decorative use.
I see these are listed for $999 or best offer on eBay. If your offer is anywhere near that, I would have accepted immediately without questions.
edit: oops, I guess I ended up using "nice"ly after all.
This is the most inspiring thread here this week.
I have a dinner date this evening at a new trendy place and I might just swish over to the bar and order a "Pink Sqirl" just to witness the expression on the bartender's face.
FTR, I'm not sure that I'm even capable of swishing. I haven't consciously swished or been forcibly removed from premises in at least a couple of decades, but I'm gonna give it my best.
Oh my sweet lord, retro nostalgist,
I am so sorry if my early morning post seemed rude. I'd proudly plant my slender frame into any bar stool that had the word "tufted" involved, or not. I'd order vodka, and whisky for the boy's. My tab.
Best,
Aunt Mark
(EDITED): The the $325.00 include sales tax?
It did, but I took it with a grain of salt.. Entering into a community with a high degree of knowledge I know little about, I expect a snooty response now and then, especially when the topic is design.
For the record, the $325 (no tax) guy fell through, said he couldn't make it for a week or so. Someone came and looked at them interested at $600, but was uncomfortable with a lack of sturdiness. Another came by today and purchased the set for $500. I bought them for $70, half-off the original price, so that's not bad.
There's a fool born every minute, but sometimes I have a difficult deciding who the fool really is.
I think you did well on your flip, Retro.
However, I am going to just come out and say it, because I lack diplomatic tact, .... those stools were really ugly (in my opinion), not designed by anyone that this forum typically deals with (95% certainty), and completely off the topic of this forum (100% certainty).
Now don't get me wrong, this forum is actually really accommodating and helpful in identification, but it seems to focus on modern design, primarily designed in the middle of the last century. By modern design, I mean roughly the end of the Bauhaus movement to the early 1970's at the latest, with clean lines, high quality woods, and minimal ornamentation. I shudder at the term 'Mid-Century Modern' since it has been so misused at this point, it is basically meaningless. So, just because someone has described something as MCM, or it was made in the 40's-70's, doesn't necessarily mean it belongs here.
Your stools may have been made in the 1960's, but they are in a style that pulls its inspiration from 1800's bar furniture. Therefore, you did not get a lot of helpful responses. In my opinion, I think you did pretty well on your sale. I am amazed that someone would pay $500 for those stools, but those are neither my style, nor in my area of expertise, so what do I know?
^That is the response I was looking for the whole time, thank you for being honest and straightforward. I'm young and new at this, and there is a considerable learning curve. I tried to explain, the brand of swivel is what brought me to ask this forum, not the design itself. Luckily for me, there is a niche market for ugly furniture from the 60s.
Thank you all for your help and opinions, and for bearing with my ignorance.
Ignorance is what brought me here, r_n, and it's what keeps me coming back. There's no shame here (thanks in no small way to dearest Mark) and all are welcome. DA forum is a gentle and supportive resource compared to many, IMO. Apologies offered for participating in any fun had at your expense and I'm really impressed that you got "swivel" and "bearing" into one post. I've been trying, and failing, to do that successfully for years.
