Small scale brass/glass/wood tables -European?  

I recently found a pair of these tables at a little vintage store here in Pittsburgh. The owner had no idea of their origin, and had been using them for the past 20 years to prop merchandise on in his window displays. The top is glass, the legs are brass tubing, and the center ball is wood. They are small, about 9" high and 14" wide. They put me in mind of French or Italian mid-century design, but I really don't know. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
