Is anyone out there familiar with this brand? The backs are stamped " made in West Germany ". I have not been able to turn up any other visual samples of furniture containing this logo. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, please give your opinions about wood species. I believe the secondary material is a stained mahogany. The drawer fronts I'm thinking are Palisander ( The entire look of the units come off as Rosewood)? I will get some better close-ups when I am back home tonight.

That looks a bit like a man-made wood veneer, in which they glue colored plies together in a wavy shape and then slice it to create a grain appearance.

With the exception of the word that makes up the backs, I am positive that both the facing verticals and all of the horizontal secondary words are real wood veneer. I am in the process of restoring now and have sanded everything in preparation for vinyl sealer and then lacquer.

I know they're terrible pictures to even begin to try to identify wood species from.

I'll try to get some better shots later.

Ironically, just last week I acquired another German entertainment center. The little old German lady I acquired it from said that she and her husband had it made it for them while he was in the military in 1962 (he's American, she a German immigrant) by a cabinet maker in a small town in Germany. After his tour the military shipped the unit back to America for her husband, the soldier. The back does bear German shipping stickers.

This artificial grain veneer is real wood in the same sense that plywood is real wood through and through, with a bit of glue between the plies.

Here are some close-up shots of the finish woods. These are doors and drawer fronts, etc.

Noticed that in the last set of pictures, the last shot in the upper right-hand corner where the light is reflecting, you can see the green raising.

That is normal wood. You are right. FWIW, the veneer that looks so odd to me is the back panel.

No idea beyond that.
