The story goes that my father/mother and aunt/uncle all chipped in and bought a "shipping container" of Danish furniture that was sent to the US by boat in the very early 1960s, or even possibly 1959.

My mom recently passed and left us the dining room table and chairs. Based on these pictures of one side chair, can anyone tell me the designer and/or style? I've searched Google images and have seen similar, but nothing exactly the same.

Thanks,

Charlie

Your moms had good taste. Finn Juhl for Bovirke, I think.

You should post pictures of the dining table. Somebody else probably has a more accurate catalog image, but this is similar to what they ordered it from.

Didn't even know you could order from Illums Bolighus if you lived in America in the early 60s. This is crazy. Love to see more, Scribeco. Didn't think anyone in America would even know about Illums Bolighus.

Please see my comments in other thread about dining room table and the other six chairs -- currently back with my dad and will eventually pass back down to me.

You are 100% correct -- my father took took a business trip to Europe in the very early 1960s and bought this stuff in Copenhagen and then had it shipped over for my family and my aunt's family. Don't know if it was really an entire shipping container or not.

My uncle in Nashua NH still has one of the two "Papa Bear" chairs, but my dad unfortunately sold his.

I will check a catalog but I have reason to believe that these are Finn Juhl for Niels Vodder, not Bovirke.

I'm pretty sure you could order from Illums here in America...

I am wrong these do appear to be Bovirke pieces. That is interesting.

I'm heading to Nashua (20 minutes from here) to knock on doors.

Cash and bottle of very good whisky in hand...
