Completely new to any of this, but found a great chess table and want to figure out some history on it if I can.

It had a hand etched serial number and a sale tag (in german) on the bottom.

You might discover that hand etched number was an American first owner’s social security number. That was a thing back then and I’ve seen a few that looked like they were marked with exactly the same tool as this.

That might be it! Based on some ssn research if it was an ssn, it would have been issued in 1967 in CO. Since we found it at an estate sale in CO, that would make sense.
