I’ve purchase this Tulip Table by Knoll (Eero Saarinen - 137cm, Sahara Noir Marble table top ) second hand and have Found things on the table that are unusual compared to tables I’ve seen online.

Normally, there should be only 2 “layers” only (Table top and base).

But with mine, there are three (3) “layers” of the table from table top to pedestrial base. And this is how it looks like with my table:

A) Metal Base with a wooden panel/plate and three screws.

B) Middle plate almost as big as the diameter size of the table top. Made of dark wood. This middle plate/panel also has two bolt holts that I cannot identify what it is for. The bolts also has threads inside.

C) Table top which is the Sahara Noir marble. But it has a sticky mesh on the bottom of the table top.

I have more pictures but can only upload 1 it seems. 🙁

Based on what I’ve found, these are my questions.

(1) Generally asking, is this table real?

(2) I’ve never seen a “middle plate” between marble top and base, which is also almost as big as the marble layer. Can anyone tell me if this is supposed to be there?

(3) Not sure also if these plates should be made of wood? I always hear it’s also metal.

(4) The bolts/holes inside the middle layer plate/panel are for what? I can screw anything into those holes. Seems like they have no use? But why would Saarinen design such thing?

I hope you can help me answer those questions because I’m quite frustrated right now.

Thanks so much in advance.

@jaeyong

Your one photo seems somewhat reassuring to me but additional photos would help. I believe you can add more images one-by-one using the "edit" function.
