Hi All,
I am trying to figure out if Risom designed for Foster McDavid or if these are just a very close copy of a Risom design distributed by Foster McDavid. I do see a slight difference in the sculpted arms and the less pronounced "bow tie" front rail in these than the Risom C-140. I appreciate any help.
Best,
Tim

I had a set of six of those Foster McDavid chairs last year. Indeed, they are a close image of the Risom C140. There is no record of Risom designing for Foster McDavid. At the time, Risom had a very vertical organization for his company, and was designing, manufacturing, and even designing/producing the textiles for his furniture. The main factory was in North Grosvenordale, CT. Foster McDavid was located in Florida.
Through research last year, I found out that these Risom-like chairs were "designed" by Robert Foster Sr. around 1956. The armchair model is #2754, and the sidechair is #2752.
