I picked up this pod chair that needs upholstery work for sure but wondering how to ID it as original or not. It certainly looks like the classic Overman but there is no label. Only the base has the marks as indicated by the photo. Anyone know what marks, if any, an original might have on the base?
The shape looks right though it looks a bit big for the base, but that might also be lens distortion.
The base looks correct excpet for the black feet--what's up with those/ They should be only a little wider than the metal. Are they cracked and spread apart or is that how wide they really are? Someone is selling Overman replacement feet on Etsy, by the way. I haven't seen them in person myself but am planning to order a set for a sofa I have.
That looks like a redo on the upholstery, for what it's worth.
These chairs had stick-on labels and most fell off over time. If you look at examples online for this particular Overman shape, you might eventually find a photo of an original label with the model name included!
Thanks Spanky. The feet are intact and it seems most of the chairs sold online with the labels and sold as original have the black feet. I've also seen what the label looks like from a couple on eBay. What I haven't seen are closeups of the markings on the base- hence the original question regarding what should be there on an original.
Hmm...I've never looked at the underside of the base for marks. The sofa that I have right now is in storage and I'm not sure when I'll get over there to look at it--maybe weeks. I have a chair on consignment at a shop--might be there in a week or two. In the meantime, someone else will probably chime in.
I would be interested in seeing a closeup of those feet if you are so inclined. They might be a clue.
