Good day,
I recently acquired a table with a George Nelson/Herman Miller label. My concern is that I cannot find a coffee table of this size (54 inch x 32 inch) designed by Nelson on the internet. It needs some restoration so I'd like to verify its authenticity so I know how aggressive I can be while restoring. If it is authentic, I'll probably have it professionally restored; if not, I'll do it myself. Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks!
@user_149 The style appears to be the same as these model 5652 and 5752 tables made from 56-67, but the 54" size was not standard. It's quite possible HM made some in a custom size for a big client. I'd assume it's authentic , but these rather simple tables are not very valuable, at least not yet, so I wouldn't pay for professional refinishing. Looks like a pretty simple job. I'd strip the top with acetone and paper towels, the method Spanky suggested to me a couple of years back. Then some light sanding and maybe some oxalic acid on those dark stains. Then finish with a Danish oil, such as Watco natural. BTW, the photo is from the George Nelson Foundation website.
