It is in the style of an Adrian Pearsall chaise lounger, for his company, Craft. It might possibly be a Pearsall design, but neither this model nor its rocker base design is included in any public domain catalog that I have seen.
There were also a few companies of that era who made chairs/sofas that strongly resembled Pearsall's designs. Many sales listings these days claim Pearsall as the designer of these pieces without bothering to provide any verification.
His family now offers a pay service to authenticate Pearsall designs.
I don't think it was made by Pearsall for Craft Associates, though he did do a wide "wave" lounge with a rocker base like that. I think his bases were always solid walnut, though. That's a lighter species of wood with a very worn dark finish.
I have never seen that type of cushion on a Pearsall wave lounge, either with legs or rockers. His were always a plywood base with a 5" or so thick slab of foam which had a boxed cover stapled to the underside of the plywood. The back was then covered with fabric (upholstery fabric on the upper part, black cambric under the seat area).
Maybe he did do this type of tufted vinyl or leather upholstery but if so, I've never seen it.
thank you cdsilva and spanky! i agree with both of your assessments. if i don't keep it, i will responsibly market it as "in the style of adrian pearsall." i will likely refinish and reupholster and enjoy it for years.
if anyone else has any insight, i would totally appreciate it.
thanks again! mike
