What is this?  

I just purchased this piece from a local collectibles guy. He thought it might be a mid-century modern birdbath but I'm no not sure. Anyone have any knowledge about this? The materials are heavy ceramic/pottery with an iron stand. It stays together with the the weight of the two 'trays". There is "1000" and an "R" stamped on the underside of each piece. I found this in Traverse City, Michigan where I live. A friend suggested that an old furniture company, Stow and Davis, from Grand Rapids, MI had a designer by the name of Edgar R. Somes who had a line of furniture called "Series 1000" that could be related to this. I couldn't find much info on this designer or his designs. Would love to know more. We're using it as a side table. Look forward hearing from anyone about this cool piece. Thanks, Dave
