Hi All, I'm new to this forum and could use a little help! I purchased this piece of art at a flea market in Texas and while doing a little digging, I think it might be a Curtis Jere. Can someone please help me or point me in the right direction. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
"C. Jere" is a luxury brand of contemporary metal sculpture; they seem to have their pieces specifically manufactured to meet a mainstream upper price point and I what you've got there is way under it... there are "C. Jere" items that are extremely similar or identical in subject though
but they're made to cost more
Before I discount this sculpture as being a reproduction for its lack of C Jere signature, I would love a second opinion -- I have read that only about half of Jere's works are signed and signatures often wipe off with cleaning. Can anyone help me determine whether this is an authentic Jere or cheaper reproduction? Dimensions are approx 42" x 35".
That one's looking a lot better, though it seems a little sparsely detailed compared to most of the C.Jere pieces. Shape looks good.
It's probably going to be awfully tough to truly authenticate without purchase history or old catalogs.
This one here looks like the most similar of the currently available C.Jere offerings to what you've got-
Thanks for your reply objectworship! I found a couple exactly like mine online, one on 1st Dibs and one on Chairish and believe the one on 1st Dibs had the signature in tact. Which doesn't mean this couldn't be a more exact copy of that, or that the signature on the others weren't forged (I assume that happens).
Also, there was another branch with three disks that previously filled in more space upper left, so it is a bit more sparse than it started. I know that I can't authenticate it but researching, comparing, asking for advice and second opinions always teaches me something, even if it isn't the results I am hoping for. Go Team!
