Hello all.
Please help to identify Papa Bear footrest.
Came across to this really old footrest at a local second furniture store but seller wouldn't sell it to me because he said he's going to get the matching chair.
I've never owned a Papa Bear in my life and very exited for it. But the legs are made of beechwood and they screw in and off. Side handles are teak. And footrest doesn't have a label or A.P. Stolen stamp. Original leather is very old and dried up.
Is this a real deal or old reproduction?
Please help.
Thank you !!
I'm thinking not, just based on the legs being stained beech. But also in comparing photos to that of the real thing, the legs do not look to have the slight splay as on the genuine ottoman and the one in question has holes on the underside (or screws? hard to tell). Plus the fingerprints of stain...
You can find good photos for comparison on 1stDibs.
There were one or two chairs made in the 60s that were very close copies of the Papa Bear. I think one one was Swedish or Norwegian. There are one or two discussions of them on this forum with some great photos if you want to search further.
