I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with the work of Percival Lafer?
I picked up this lounge chair recently, and a lot of things seem to suggest that is either designed by Percival Lafer or at least produced by the Lafer company (the detailing of he slings held in place with the little dowels, the geometry of the frame and the cushion. Except, I have never seen the little dowel connection of the frame - although it's kind of smart - you can take the entire chair apart just by pulling out four little dowels - not a single screw anywhere!)
It is unmarked except for a handwritten number on the underside of the (unfortunately torn) seat straps - see picture #5. (LAF = Lafer?)
Can anyone i.d. the chair? (It's hard to find a lot of detailed information on Lafer and the company online - although I think he did some fantastic stuff. They still seem to be in business producing high-end (? at least price-wise) but kind of average looking recliners and ergonomic furniture. Is this still the same company? How long did they produce the 'classic' Lafer furniture (i.e. Earth Chair etc...) Would love if someone had any pointers!
Thanks,
kazimir

One name for those 4 funny, clever joints is a tusk tenon joint. Well known technique. Someone here posted a sofa with tusk tenons a while back. Thought it was Lafer too:

leif ericson,
thanks for pointing out the correct term for those joints - and also the the link to the sofa!
I think I was able to id the chair - in a place so obvious that I didn't even consider it initially: Percival Lafer's own website: It is listed in his portfolio as the MP-091 series, and at least from the one photo he has up it appears to be the identical chair & details. see below:
