I picked up this lamp several years ago. I was hoping that I would be able to find some information, however, I have been unsuccessful. There are no markings on the lamp and the cord had been changed by the previous owner.
My guess...made in France, circa 1950

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Feedback....
I had originally guessed that the lamp was French, however, it may be Italian. What are your thoughts regarding the age?
Perhaps 1950's, earlier or later?
Sorry for all the questions, this lamp has had me baffled for a few years.
Any feedback?
Thanks in advance.

My guess would be Italian, based on similar lamps I've seen. Also, and generally speaking, marble feels decidedly more Italian than French. I've never seen this particular lamp though.
Does it have the original socket and plug? Those who know more about this than I do may be able to tell you more based on what they look like.
Edit: Sorry, reread your first post. I realize the plug will not tell you anything. The socket may still be worth checking out.

I go to
French markets every weekend and haven't seen anything like this, so my vote is Italian or else a marriage of base and lamp from two different places.

As I scrolled down, viewing your photos--
I saw the shade and thought, "Hm. Interestin..." but before I could finish the thought, I caught sight of the incongruous base and switched to "... WEIRD!".
I like the shade, but find the tapered stem somehow disturbing. It's obviously a high-quality lamp, though.
(But, you asked NOT for a critique, but help in identifying it-- for which I'm useless, I'm afraid.)

Weird and interesting are...
Weird and interesting are two attributes I like in my lamps! That is probably why it caught my interest in the first place. It has spent most of the time in storage since I bought it a few years ago. This is the first time I have taken any photos to try and dig up some information.
Although my search on the internet this afternoon did result in an ID for one of my floor lamps which was previously a mystery for me. I always seem to find what I'm not looking for!

No, it remains short and stout!
Only the shade pivots.

Having spent an hour...
Having spent an hour browsing through some books, I am leaning towards Italian.
The shade has such a distinctive style, I am surprised I haven't found anything similar yet. Even if it is a 'mix and match', the shade should help me ID the top half!
