Is is possible to identify the designer of France & Son pieces using the serial numbers on the circular tags that are inlaid into the pieces? I purchased a modular (3 pc) sofa and matching armchair at auction that was listed as designed by Finn Juhl but have been unable to locate any pieces that look similar, by him or any other designer, and am somewhat skeptical. All 4 pieces have the round France & Son tag with a number on it... Thanks in advance for any info!

I'd planned to have it reupholstered, so it is currently at the shop, but I will swing by there to take some pictures and post them in the next day or two. Thanks for responding!

France & Son produced a set called "Moduline" that was designed by Ole Gjerløv-Knudsen & Torben Lind. I mention it because it is the only modular set I know of by France & Son, although there easily could be others.

I almost mentioned Gjerløv-Knudsen in my original post, because I did come across his work in my search and the lines/angles of the backrests and seats of my furniture look exactly the same as his (first picture). However, the seat cushions on my pieces appear to be a bit thicker than on his, and only the backrests on mine have the buttons, not the seats. (I suppose there's a chance they could have been redone at some point, but the fabric doesn't seem recent so I'm assuming it is still original.) Also, the two end pieces of the sofa and the matching chair have the "folded over" style armrests, like I've seen in Juhl's designs (2nd pic). It's almost like the two styles were merged together. Hence, my wondering if the serial number could be used to positively ID the designer. Anyway, sorry I haven't gotten pictures of mine posted yet, my upholsterer has been in and out of the shop and I haven't been able to catch up with him yet.

Grete Jalk
It's hard to tell without pictures, but I think you should search Grete Jalk. She designed for France and Son and had a design that uses the "folded" armrest.
Check out the link for a picture. http://www.deconet.com/product.images.action?id=2149
