This is the piece. And the stamp from this auction : http://www.mainauctiongalleries.com/Auction-Lot.php?auction_dt=20150315&lot=089 And the attribution to Vodder from here: http://www.depot09.be/objects/vintage%20STORAGE%20DEPOT09/Philippe%20S00000972.htm Interestingly, the stretcher base is almost identical to that of a coffee table we had recently, which I also posted a phot ...

| I'd naively assumed Povl dinesen was a maker of furniture, then I saw a few references to pieces marked France and Søn and Povl dinesen, and started wondering how that is possible: So, was Povl dinesen a maker, retailer, or both? (Or something else my little mind can't think of) And a more specific follow-up question: why is Povl dinesen's mark also on the below linked Minerva tables? http://www.artfact.com/auction-lot/peter-hvidt-occasional-tables,-pair,-by-france-1-c-b7f115a8be | |||||

The late Colonels widow told the estate sales company that Povl dinesen had a retail shop in Wiesbaden were the Colonel bought almost all his beloved furniture. The Colonels estate had some Arne Vodder, Povl dinesen, Tove & Edvard Kindt-Larsen designs in it. I am not a lighting expert but I can spot a well made lamp from across the room and that is what happened with these lamps. I have never seen lighting sockets built like the ones on these lamps so I bought them. I took the lamps to the lighting ...

| Povl dinesen was a cabinetmaker in the beginning. He participated in the annual cabinetmaker exhibitions. Erik Buck's model 50 dining chair was actually first made by Povl dinesen and shown at the exhibition that year. I think Povl was a smart business man, and saw that the cabinetmaker's business model was doomed. So he added a retail side to his business and started selling all the factory pieces from other factories, and adding a few from his own shop into the mix. He primarily sold to US servicemen by offering a catalog in English and other such de ... | |||||

| Povl dinesen did not make the sideboard. Povl dinesen was a cabinet maker who infrequently participated in the annual cabinet maker exhibitions. His presence was infrequent, and his booth small, and not so very widely remarked upon. One of the things he made was the first Erik Buck model 50 arm chair, the mass production of which was taken over by Oddense Maskinsnedkeri. I think that was his last exhibition. I don't know when he started retailing the product of other factories, but his business was primarily this in the early 1960s. He sold a lot of furn ... | |||||

| My Povl dinesen catalog also shows the same lamp, although there are no photos of the harp, etc. It is cited as model PD483/17 and PD483/24. No designer is cited, just as in Leif's catalog. I have a Fog&Morup pendant ceiling lamp with a very similar brown socket. It is flared in pretty much the same way, and unscrews the same way as well. | |||||

| More Povl dinesen appreciation. @PD Just wanted to say that I also am very, very happy to own a piece of furniture that I presume to have been designed and made by your father. It's a long bench made of teak--about 73 inches wide. It's marked beneath but not with the "supplied by" notation that was sometimes used. Pics were uploaded in a thread I made a couple of days ago trying to figure out whether it had been designed by any of the other noteworthy folks associated with the PD group. I've reattached the photos here just for clarity sake. I've never seen a ... | |||||

| Povl dinesen is better known... Povl dinesen is better known as a retailer, and his retail mark says "supplied by Povl dinesen." He also had a workshop producing designs of his own and of other designers. Based on the fact that the stamp does not say "supplied by" I would tend to think this is his own production. And possibly his own design. Various of his family members have popped up on the forum. You might get lucky, or you might try tracking down an email address for someone. | |||||

| Povl dinesen Furniture, Wiesbaden, Germany Hello Palle, My father worked for Honeywell Computers and we lived in Wiesbaden from 1964-1971. Around 1968/1969, my parents visited your father's furniture store and purchased many beautiful pieces which are still in use today. They purchased a dining room table with 8 chairs (like photo in this forum), a sideboard with hutch (hutch almost same as photo in this forum), china cabinet, coffee table, and 2 end tables. For the first time after 46+ years, they placed dishes on top of the sideboard that were still warm/ ... | |||||

| Povl dinesen furniture shop in Wiesbaden Palle, One more question. Do you know if your father ever took furniture to the American military base in Augsburg, Germany to sell? I am told by the previous owner her mother purchased all pieces at the same time at the officers club on the base, where dealers would bring their wares to sell to the officers and their families. This would have been between 1960 to 1963. Thanks, Patti Bennett | |||||

| Hi. I'm the son of Povl dinesen Hello. I can see, that you are interested in Povl dinesen. He was my father, and I can tell you a bit about him. He was a cabinet maker in Copenhagen from about 1945 and designed a few things, cabinets and tables. The dinning table on the pictures is definatly his design and produced on his own factory in Copenhagen. And the cabinet that stands on top of the other is also his design while the bottom one is Arne Vodder. In his best years Povl dinesen had about 20 employees at the factory and he had a big furniture shop in Copenh ... | |||||
