| Hello, I've been doing some online research on Aalto and I stumbled across this image. Do you happen to know if this is an Aalto piece? If not, who might have produced it? I did notice the difference in the legs, but did find these similar chairs: http://www.tradart-deauville.auction.fr/_fr/lot/alvar-aalto-1898-1976-amp-artek-editeur-paire-de-chaises-modele-68-en-bouleau-8013450#.WKH0Z3g2PVo | |||||

| Jens Risom "Playboy" ? | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Vwdoyle | Identification | |
| Hi All, I am trying to figure out if Risom designed for Foster McDavid or if these are just a very close copy of a Risom design distributed by Foster McDavid. I do see a slight difference in the sculpted arms and the less pronounced "bow tie" front rail in these than the Risom C-140. I appreciate any help. Best, Tim | |||||

| ... right leg (see picture). Any idea of why? Is it something that I should seriously worry about? The crack does not seem to be very deep, but I could be wrong. 2) There are some gaps between frame and legs (see photo). How would you advice to fix it best? 3) All the backrests are in good conditions, no cracks in the cane, only the cane looks very old (I think this chairs are from 1965 according to the mark on the wood). But I am worrying that I would not like the difference in color between the new caned seats and the backs, and also, I do not know for how lo ... | |||||
| Hi Ponyboy. Would you mind | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | DrPoulet | General discussion | |
| Hi Ponyboy. Would you mind checking something for me? I have a Japan chair too and something has been bothering me since I got it. Taking measures from the screws to the ends of the wooden bar on the back, I have a couple of cm more on one side. It is not centered. I have no clue if it is supposed to be that way or if my chair has some kind of defect. Could you check if you have the same difference on yours? (sorry if my post is not too clear!) | |||||

| ... that this is early 60s ? and finally, the guy i bought it from said that it was cherry wood and that the top had been redone but not the leaves (you can see the difference from the pic with the extension leaves). i'm not sure about the wood so can anyone confirm what type of wood is it. also, when the top was redone, was it sanded to within an inch of it's life (which would explain why the grain is not very nice) or has it just not been given the correct finish and could be restored with stripping and re-oiling? thanks as always ! bb | |||||

| ... difference is inside your house compared to the outdoor setting (!!?) where they were for awhile. You can aim a screw between the nails if it comes to that. They're about 1/2" apart which is enough room for a screw. Just be sure it's not so long that it will come out the top! You can even do this after the seat is woven; just remove a nail or two, push the loops of cord out of the way, and drive the screw in. Then stick the nail though the loop of cord, grip the nail with some needlenose pliers and bring the nail in at a low angle to the nail hole and ... | |||||

I can also appreciate people adorning their house with kitschy barrel furniture. It is merely a difference of design focus. I prefer things that I enjoy looking at surrounding me in my home, other people prefer objects that make them laugh/smile, adorning their home (I am still friends with these people; albeit far less cool than them, obviously, and rarely invited to their basement ... | |||||

| Hi, Thanks for your comments. Had noticed the difference of the slope at the bottom, however, initial designs (pictures attached) also showed this characteristic (other placement of the rounding). In that way, I thought it might be an edition or proto from these to the final production model.. Going to check with Vitra.. Thanks again and best regards, Olivier | |||||

| ... designs to these measurements. So yes, they are comfortable and this can be taken as a general rule. But of course, two things have changed since then: The size of the human body and the way we live. If a chair was made for a 1,65 meter person it may be less comfotable today for a noticably taller person. And in the 50s, people used to sit rather then to lie on a sofa. Whether two people sit next to each other chitchatting over a cup of tea or one person sprawls on the same sofa with remote in hand, that makes a big difference. | |||||
