| A fine Jacobsen piece... A fine Jacobsen piece and the other, a strange one generously borrowing from you know who. Eames meets dieter Rams. New one for me, haven't made my mind up, but rather liking it. | |||||

| 680 daybed by Vitsœ You are correct that Vitsœ did make a 680 daybed. This has been out of production since the mid-80s. In September 2008, Vitsœ will show this piece along with many other pieces from the collection at an exhibition entitled Post-War plastics: dieter Rams's innovations in design, 1959-1974. If you receive our newsletter we will inform you about this closer to the time. http://www.vitsoe.com/keep_in_touch.php | |||||

| It is a growing trend... amoung design lovers to outdo each other on "inside" information. One of the more frequent forms of that inside information is to know who worked for whom. dietrich Lubs was indeed a designer for Braun during the time dieter Rams was design director (untill 1995) and nobody has any doubt about the fact that he worked on this clock as well as on the famous Braun calculator. So this is the same kind of "truth" as changing the designer's name under the Nelson clocks or under the Margrethe mixing bowls. My point of view is that it is norm ... | |||||

| ... out some customer reviews first, - perhaps it's a Tizio in toaster form ;o) 2.) Jasper Morrison for Rowenta. (sleek, all white, dieter Rams would have approved). 3.)Porsche toaster. Gorgeous, but over your price limit (and I'd refuse to pay that much money for a toaster). But absolutely gorgeous, did I mention that ? Perhaps you could justify forking out that much cash if you 'd call it a functional sculpture ? BTW, if you are including electronics, how can you NOT include an Apple iPOD ? It's design, it's functional, it makes music ? :o) | |||||

| its a total piece of shite!... its a total piece of shite! Compare it to some Perriand shelves or those Duncan Gowdy cabinets or dieter Rams for Vitsoe..the list is endless, I'll certainly praise something if its worth it and always do but this is so full of flaws I am enjoying kicking the crap out it, if only it would fall down on the strength of the abuse. Have a close look at the openings, its not just the fact that the shelves are on an angle but that most of the openings are of a totally inconvenient shape for storing much of anything, I count 5 I could ... | |||||

| I'm 35 and don't get me wrong... I'm 35 and don't get me wrong I LOVE vintage electronics...I have a Castiglioni Brionvega turntable in my living room, a Mario Belinni Olivetti divisumma 18 on my desk, dieter Rams and Reinhold Weiss radios, fans, space heaters, etc. These items are beautiful pieces of design, unlike the spine of a plastic cd jewell case. I, too am concerned about sound quality and appreciate the analog/digital debate. That said, I still don't want an area of my home with a rack full of plastic cases. I have a decent vintage vinyl colle ... | |||||

| ... ancestors, so to me its a falure as a modern object, so is the Barcelona chair and many other pieces of high design. I'd like to own some of them, they are beautiful, well engineered etc etc but I would never give them the praise of 'good design' which the work of people like dieter Rams deserves. Some more examples of what people think is poor design from known designers? Phillipes kettle on the other thread was a good one I thought. | |||||

| A PUMPKIN PATCH PERSON is poles apart from a dieter Rams person....Its boring (in a good way)to have a neutral fireplace, keep eye catching color in the flowers, throws, pillows,a casually propped up collage etc....temporal stuff. After all, dieter wears loden lederhosen, not punkin patch hot pants...:) | |||||

| C'mon... intentional "shock tactics" are for inarticulate, hostile teenagers I just came across a quote from dieter Rams, in Stephen Bayley's book "Taste (The Secret Meaning of Things)". Dieter sez: "To me, good design means as little design as possible. Simple is better than complicated. Quiet is better than confusion. Quiet is better than loud. Unobtrusive is better than exciting. Small is better than large. Light is better than heavy. Plain is better than colored. Harmony is better than divergency. Being well balanced is better than being exalted. Continu ... | |||||

| I have mentioned this before... but for those who read french, the catalogue of the Centre Georges Pompidou exhibition on the HfG Ulm is a very good document to.Especially Otl Aicher's description of his first years at the HfG Ulm and the differences between the bauhaus and Ulm. It has always amazed me how succesful the HfG Ulm was in educating young people. Compared with the Bauhaus...most succesful through it's teachers...Ulm has been a source of excellent designers for many years. People like Stephan Lengyel,Alexander Neumeister,Andries Van Onck, Hans von ... | |||||

| he he I was asking if you... he he I was asking if you had ny good ones, The Ulm Hochschule fer Gestaltung was post Bauhaus and was pretty influential (at Braun anyway) Luminairies include Max Bill, Otl Aicher, dieter Rams (?) Hans Gugelgot, Claude Schnaidt, Inge Scholl etc etc They had a precise methodology which is hard to find info on, Form + Zweit had an issue dedicated to it some time ago. They were criticised for being soul- less navel gazers who ended up in a creative & intellectual blind alley. But they made some great things. | |||||

| HP... Even old Braun coffee pots had a tad more feel good, than a classic, manly Aryan Braun dieter Rams electric razor, which I happen to own and still use occassionally when I tire of lathering up and whacking whiskers with my new five edge rig from Gilette, or whomever. In turn, your pictures of electric shavers do not shed much light on how a mixer ought to look IMHO. What they look like is what a shaver you travel with might look like, if you need to take it in and out of your pocket alot. They have a form language aspiring to more organic shape (read f ... | |||||

| Just to clarify. HP. The record player by dieter Rams was for 7" discs (45s) not the larger 12" LPs. Now you can appreciate how compact this design was - only slightly larger than a CD player. Obviously at that time there were other technical limitations with the electronics, motor, battery, etc. | |||||

| Dear DC Wilson, the idea of... Dear DC Wilson, the idea of a drawing board is really brilliant, but technically difficult to implement. I'm afraid that we'll have to be satisfied with scans. Moreover, the professionals who have a graphic tablet can easily make a sketch with their favourite software and then insert it in their post. Stephen and Gustavo, thank you very much for your kind words and your input. The fast increase of the number of messages in the forum (about 25000 today) will probably force us to divide it into sub-sections. The rotation of the t ... | |||||
