| Koen, regarding saving oil for plastics... | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| ... that we will run out of oil to make things for two reasons. 1. Oil can be made from coal, and there is enough coal for many, many centuries, even if we keep fueling our stupid cars with it (though it takes more energy to crack the oil free of the coal than it generates so fueling cars would be very stupid to continue with if coal becomes the new oil). And if we quit using oil for gas and diesel, the coal reserves alone could yield enough oil to last humanity for many more centuries. I know, coal is messy and pollution rich. But if running out of oil for mak ... | |||||

I quite like the B&B Italia diesis table platform, however that is cast aluminum so i doubt i could have that reproduced cheaply. Also looked at eliptical table legs, but i will be using the table for a bunch of licquor bottles so need something stronger. | |||||

| Without knowing your space and furnishings, I would go with the diesis table as it is more visually interesting. | |||||

| Looks like Chopper inhaled. What a cutie. As for the spots on his nose, I recommend a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. Then a deep pore cleansing lotion, and a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond nose scrub, and an exfoliating gel scrub. Then apply herb-mint facial mask which should be left on for 10 minutes. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging nose balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. | |||||

| Good morning SDR! I am quite honored that my shirt has inspired your phenomenal artistry. Oddly, I noticed the same "bulge" around my mid-section whilst clad in that Warhol shirt...and immediately started a diet. It's not easy. Yours, Aunt Mark | |||||
| For Olive: Part 3 | 1 Relevance | 21 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| For Olive: Part 3 I drove a 1980 300 TD wagon from 150k miles when I bought it to 300k miles when I sold it with nothing on the dashboard working at all except heater, airconditioner and headlight (the trip meter was my gas gauge). And despite being a diesel it was easily the most pleasurable, engaging, dignified, versatile, beast of burden (dressed down in Europe they were used by tradesman as pickup trucks) I've ever driven. To perhaps belabor my point, the only problem affecting driveability that I ever had with that car was that it occassionally wouldn't ... | |||||

| Ok, Ok...jeez... Actually, I have thought about this in the past. Apparently, our ideas are somewhat similar. You're right...sanitation and disease control will be a huge issue. I'm envisioning something akin to a floating gym locker room. It's probably not feasible to provide private facilities to individuals or single families. But a pod could be designed using the ubiquitous steel container with showering and toilet facilities. We already have effective portable toilet technology that can handle enormous crowds, and the shower from something like a campin ... | |||||

| I've always liked tombstones. | 1 Relevance | 12 years ago | Mark | General discussion | |
| I've always liked tombstones...mostly the vulgar overscale examples that are ever so slightly tilted toward the grave, and I have absolutely no problem with faded plastic flowers adorning the beloved plot. Also jello (minus any bones) can bring nothing but joy to the modern diet (in fact colored marshamallows floating on top of lime jello can easily unleash the beast in me!). Tonight I'm serving a simple dinner menu, unfortunately sans the gormand "glob-o- love" called jello. I like pants too. Hi, Aunt M. | |||||

| Today the gals from the resale store came running outside to give me a gift for my old cat Mr. Chopper. Poor Mr. Chopper has always had a bad habit of playing in his water bowl..in fact he will jump into the shower with you. So I must keep a tray under his water bowl, this being tray #2. He does have a large water bowl in which to play in outside on the patio (what a fu$k(ng mess). The plastic tray is Jonathan Adler. The bowls are Hall pottery (I have a ton of it..), and the cat food is Science diet for the elderly cat. And I'm your Weird Aunt. | |||||

| A good book to read about Ferdinand Porsche... | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| ... part of this man's life. As Koen points out, Ferd had his Hitler period. But Porsche's truly fascinating period starts long before Hitler and the Nazi's. Starting around 1900, he engineered and designed motors and machines of every imaginable kind. In 1900, he designed electric hub motors and put them in car wheels. At the same time, he designed internal combustion engines. He combined internal combustion and electric hub motor driven vehicles into some of the first hybrids. He designed the flat OHV four for early blimps and airplanes and cars. He designed ... | |||||
