| similar look thanks for the response. That was a big help. I just found this link for something similar. Maybe I didnt get such a bad deal? It is my first piece of vintage furniture, other than a strange table I bought that I will post pics of soon. Thanks. http://centurydesignltd.1stdibs.com/itemdetails.php?id=225669 | |||||
| Phase II | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| Phase II I want to guess that the large shockmounts are very early and definitely exclusive to Zenith. Zenith went through at least two phases of the chairs - this I think, is 1954 or slightly before. Earliest productions had the rope edge, middle production didnt, but later production had screw in glides. 1954 is a safe bet. | |||||

The end of the middle support has the small dowel joint as does every joint on the end joints. Also I am looking for original pictures of benches to cross reference if anyone has any. Where did the foil label sit exactly on the under side of the bench?

| For me it was a combination... For me it was a combination of things,my father collects antiques but he has no interest in anything post Art Nouveau....so obv I had to be interested in the things he didnt like. Secondly my fathers hoarding tendencies lead to the formation of a prop hire company for film,tv theatre etc about 15 years ago,he already had a fulltime job so he asked me to run it.This lead to me going to see loads of auctions and markets etc which in turn lead me to buy nice vintage design items for the business. If you look at most advertising th ... | |||||

| ... requires the wiggles to function. As an artist the bronze guy's own furniture designs become clunky and disorganized (his non 'functional' pieces are much more coherent in terms of form and fluidity and motion) So whats left is a piece of outdoor furniture that isn't as good as the original. Which is fine, and I'm sure he sells 1 or 2 a year. However, as art, or as design, the bronze wiggle isnt that interesting or engaging. Thats where I thought you were heading with the Noodle Cesca. Whether people know that Starcks piece is an actual Louis chair is i ... | |||||

A really terrible example of such sexism occurs in "Eames Lounge: Icon of Modern Design" which features David Hanks & Pat Kirkham interviewing Don Albinson of the Eames Office. He claims almost full responsibility of the Eames Lounge, and disputes the claims that Ray had anything to do with it at all. David: "Where was Ray in the design process?" Don: "In her room." Pat: "The drawings are for the experimental chairs of the 40s" Don: "These drawings are a total and complete mystery. I never s ...

| Heath | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | LuciferSum | General discussion | |
| Heath In "Birth of the Cool" exhibit they had some prototypes of little dowel-legged tables. The ones I saw had a rectangular top, ala the wire-based table. From what I understand the dowel legs were prone to breaking. Maybe thats why they didnt ever go into production. Or maybe they figured the wire based table was enough. Incidentally Urban does a fairly nice looking table with the wire struts - and it looks a lot less copy-cat than the chair does. | |||||

| Of course this thread wouldnt be complete Of course this thread wouldnt be complete if we didnt include the people who were kind enough to "update" the classics - bringing them right in to the 21st century nouveau riche living room. My personal favorite is the Eames Aluminum Tandem seating. Bravo. | |||||

| Good Job!! i was worried about you for a minute! dude, i bet it is GLENN of california, Grossman design. i didnt personaly see it, but a fellow collector freind had a signed Glenn triple table with a wood base probably like yours. your table is walnut, has scew in leg brackets and appears to be a medium walnut laquer finish which are consistent with vintage Glenn furniture. How much? | |||||

| ... them (thanks to LRF & co) and you've got something that should be perfectly saleable. What you get when you strip them down is obvious - a stripped chair. Some of the earlier covered chairs didnt have the air holes drilled through them, and you could safely pass them off as an original raw shell. But a drilled chair is always less valuable than an undrilled one, and a good customer will be able to tell in a heartbeat if those holes have been patched. What I would do is follow the instructions on one of the other threads (polishing oxidised Eames bases) an ... | |||||

| Yoga I'm guessing that it was only two years old. She didnt say exactly - but it looks brand new. Perhaps it was older, because I think these things are warrantied for at least 3 years. And who knows exactly how it broke. Maybe she and her husband were trying out a new...yoga...position on it. Maybe she tripped and landed on the back. Whatever the case, I'm not too worried about the shockmounts. We've got the same chair in my office and its been solid as a rock for 2 years. Everything - be it an Eames chair or a BMW - has problems once in a while. I'm ... | |||||
