| Digsmed replacement urgent!!! | 2 Relevance | 4 years ago | MarianaCosta | General discussion | |
| Hi! Very new in this site but a friend told me I might find some help here! My father has a spice rack that belonged to my grandmother. She died almost 30years ago and he cherished that piece since I remember, always telling us that it is a designer piece and that it was purchased during my grandparents honeymoon. Honestly I never paid a lot of attention, but the housekeeper recently broke 3 of the jars when she almost dropped it and my father is heartbroken, doesn't even look at it anymore. Apparently it is that important to him, which makes it important to ... | |||||
| San Diego, OC or LA womb upholsterers? | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | Modern Millie | General discussion | |
| San diego, OC or LA womb upholsterers? Eames Junkie, would you mind sharing where you had your womb reupholstered in San diego? I will have to get mine done soon and was quoted nearly $1400 for womb plus ottoman - NOT including 10 yards of fabric - from a reputable placein LA. Also need to reupholster some Frankl v-backed chairs which seem like they could be tricky (quoted nearly $400/chair, again not including fabric....). I've been googling around but would appreciate any recommendations from DA-ites in southern california. | |||||

| Legoland bathroom in San Diego: who did it? | 2 Relevance | 20 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| I just took my kid to Legoland north of San diego and found two designs of note. First, there was a bathroom at about the farthest point back in the park that was all white tile, with these wonderfully unsusual white sinks with one small, round mirror over each one. I loved the mirror. The urinals were very cool too. There were primary color accent tiles spread around and the toilet stalls had nearly floor to ceiling partitions, something I wish all bathrooms had, and the partitions were in the same wonderful primary colors as the accent tiles. And everythin ... | |||||

| If you're in San diego, you could try... Lalo Valdes, 619 232-3610. I'm only telling you because I've moved away from Southern California, so the amount of furniture-restoration work in his queue no longer affects me. Be aware that Egg refoaming and reupholstery is expensive. It's hard to judge what the chair might be worth in its current condition without seeing it; one man's "tattered" is another's "age-appropriate patina". For an estimate of the relative value of the chair before and after restoration, you could show it to David Skelley at Boomerang fo ... | |||||

| The concrete dilemma. | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | Linda McAndrew | General discussion | |
| The concrete dilemma. Rockybird, thank you so much for posting about your experience with concrete countertops, I'm sorry it turned into a mess! Now I'm wondering "if" the composition of the mix and the type of sealer used makes any difference. A female contractor used a company named "Pourfolio" in San diego who installed concrete counters in her kit/bathroom & she's very happy with them except citrus did stain hers, apparently it's a common staining substance. Also, spoke with a president of a design company who had concrete countertops installed in her ki ... | |||||

| dielectric grease, misc ramblings Not having much luck finding freshies for all the chairs at once. So, how to protect what's left? After researching various rubber treatments I settled on silicone grease (dielectric grease at the auto parts store). The results are pretty good. I was worried it was going to end up collecting dust/dog hair but it has gradually soaked in. As an aside, though I love the chairs they are prone to tip over when kids and drunk adults try them out. I see that later versions widened the stance at the base and made a few other adjustments. | |||||

| Some geneology might jump start this discussion... Functionalism (e.g., Sullivan's tall commercial buildings) is the solid, upright box with ornament. Wright's Organic style deconstructed the solid box into intersecting planes with simpler ornament and oriented the box to either harmonize with the topography or express the urban grid if the topography were flat. De Stilj took Wright's deconstruction another step by further rationalizng Wright's intersecting plane organicism with an elimination of nonplanar ornament, an elimination of earthy organicism, and ... | |||||
