| RE: Removing glued chair seats | 1 Relevance | 3 years ago | Browkin | Repair | |
| I am wondering why a furniture producer would use a glue method for the seats instead of screws, like all Danish did. Is that because the furniture was made just for one time use and they didn’t count that someone would want to reupholster them one day ? I remember the German producers in the midcentury did focus on cheap production. That was their market strategy compared to high quality Scandinavians. Was gluing the seats really such a saving method? Or did they even want to prevent customers from repairing the chairs and buying new ones instead? | |||||

| Thanks so much! The upholstery is for sure a real shame. My assumption was that it would be a bit earlier because of lack of marking. I think I read Danish Control didn't start until a little later. She definitely needs a face lift. | |||||

| Eureka, a blow dryer, why didn’t I think of that? Great solution, heat (& moisture) are a good way to smooth leather. What’s the metal object being used in the first example- just a random smooth heavy metal bar? Thanks for the video, appreciated. | |||||
| RE: Illums Bolighus chair - who is the designer? | 1 Relevance | 3 years ago | LAartist | Identification | |
| no I don't believe I'm a bot. I didn't see your answer. I tried to post and then did something that said I was banned. Well, my aunt bought the chairs and she cared about design. i'm just curious if the design has the look of a specific designer. Rather than just generic "Danish Modern" What is really unusual is that she said she was walking down the street, saw them in the window, and had them shipped home. | |||||
| RE: Danish cord weave for Leggera chair by Gio Ponti | 1 Relevance | 3 years ago | Spanky | Repair | |
| Offhand I don't know how to do it so I can't offer any explanation. It may have something to do with going from side to side twice in a row and then front to back three times in a row? On each side, I mean. I'd just fool around trying different things until I hit on it, if I didn't have an original on hand to study. Look at videos for rush seat weave patterns. I think there's a lot more variation there than with paper cord. Could be helpful. | |||||
| RE: Andersen Smile Table - replica or not? | 1 Relevance | 3 years ago | Herringbone | Identification | |
| @fredhh I don’t know. It seems that the design went through a couple changes over time. You find different measurements, different positions of the stretchers, different edge banding, different shapes of legs and leg joints. What I didn’t find in a quick search are the visible dowels attaching the stretcher in your example. I tend to believe that this is just a late 60s or early 70s production but I can’t be sure. The table seems to be reasonably well made. | |||||

| Just to note here, John Stuart was a retailer and importer, they didn't really make anything. They did like to stamp their brand on stuff though. Get us a pic and we should be able to help. | |||||

| Upon re-examining those close-up photos again for the first time in a while, I see one more installation sequencing that I didn't notice when I did the restoration. The corners are all hand woven for 7-8 strands, to account for the width of the rails there. These have to be handwoven, instead of part of the pre-weave, since they are stapled in groups of 3-4 to the rails, under the weave. Quite a testament to the weaving quality that even up close, it is difficult to differentiate. | |||||

| @eddie-2 Sorry for a late reply, I didn’t see your post sooner. I‘m afraid there‘s no real way right now to get unbanned. It‘s a bug, oftentimes it helps to log out and log in again but sometimes it doesn’t. In this case somebody would have to unban you manually but I haven’t been able to contact anybody from DA for a while now. So maybe you just use your new name. Sorry. | |||||

| I did some searching, but didn't spend a lot of time, because I assume if @lexi couldn't find it, my chances were pretty slim. With such an unusual design, an image search should return some hits, if there were a fair number produced. So, probably very low production and limited distribution. | |||||
| RE: Can you identify these armchairs | 1 Relevance | 3 years ago | Herringbone | Identification | |
| ... I could be wrong, but I didn't find one online in a quick search either. Therefore, I would first assume that it is a reinterpretation made in Denmark. But I am happy to be corrected. Maybe @cdsilva? Edit: Here's an old thread dealing with the sime kind of chair. Seems as if there never was an original 2211 easy chair and it also seems as if Danish companies were happy to copy Mogensen designs. https://designaddict.com/community/main-forum/Chair-ID-Borge-Mogenesen3144/ | |||||
