| Need help with a Søren Willadsen Table | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | Mkdesign | Identification | |
| Hello everyone, I recently purchased a beautiful dining table produced by Søren Willadsen in Denmark. I‘d love to know who designed it and would be really thankful for any other information about the piece. Especially the oval legs kind of look like ones of a couple other tables/chairs designed by Kai Lyngefeldt Larsen but I didn‘t yet find any similar tables or proof online. Looking forward to any new input! thanks a lot! | |||||

| @herringbone - Either you didn't understand me or you think I'm an idiot, it goes without saying that I don't distrust a stamp.I was just amazed to find such an error in a reputable magazine like Mobilia, so I asked how trustworthy the magazine is in general. | |||||

| Hi DreamUK27 I didn't get to the bottom of this one. All paths lead to a similar chair attributed to Kofod Larsen which we can't confirm. The research continues and I will report back once I find out any more information. Thanks Ed | |||||
| RE: How to undo the back cushion of a Florence Knoll easy chair? | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | tktoo2 | Repair | |
| @bj, Your jpeg didn't come through but, depending on model, I believe the chairs might have what is called in the US 'tightback' or 'fixed cushion' upholstery in which the back cushions are sewn directly to the the material wrapping the back frame or panel. @spanky would probably know better, but any competent upholsterer should be able to reproduce the technique. | |||||

| ... famous things like the BO59 lounge chair, the BO66 ‘eye table’ or the BO63 side chair and BO68 dining table, or the Bo72 armchair, or the BO55 sofa. These designs are so scarce in the documentation from then that I think this is the first time the BO66 and BO68 have ever even been given their BO model numbers in public. And bear in mind BO was the second producer of them, so their real model numbers are entirely unknown and possibly forever, but if they followed the danish usual practices they would have been referred to as CB-XX and likely the numbers I r ... | |||||

| ... the maker was. Carl Hansen and Andreas Tuck were two who pushed the retailers hard to accept marking from the maker, but even then it is not universal with CH or AT. AP was much less pushy. Prior to Carl Hansen I don’t think there was a single maker who pushed the issue at all and it is a sign of how much things were changing with exports and tourism and how desirable HJW’s chairs were that CH had any negotiating power at all to make retailers accept marked furniture. You have to understand that the idea of marking was not a ‘maker’s mark’ as we say in Eng ... | |||||
| RE: Holmegaard glass competition and the annual award from the Danish Cabinetmakers Guild. | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | Herringbone | General discussion | |
| @paul Hi Paul, didn't see your post in September, but better late than never. I'd come across the name Vernon Larsen a couple of years ago and was surprised on what he invented. Now that you reminded me of him, I reread what can be found online. I noticed that the English Wikipedia has an entry on him. Its basically a shorter translated version of the Danish entry. The only difference: The English version gives the Holmegaard and Guild info, the Danish one doesn't. My advice: Stick to the Danish version. Vernon Larsen was more of a mechanic than somebody wor ... | |||||
| RE: question about restoring a Madsen chair | 1 Relevance | 5 years ago | Herringbone | Repair | |
| @lexi Thanks for looking them up at arkiv. They seem to have quite a lot about Madsen which is not really surprising. For research it’s always good to have a bigger company in a small town. The more important the company is for its town, the more likely it is that you can find documentation. And Haarby didn’t have much industry besides C.M. Madsen’s Møbelfabrik. | |||||

| Ah okay. I'm in the middle of a restoration project and your insights will definetly help. How long did you let the mill soak in the methylated spirits? I let it soak in overnight but the cylinder didn't seperate from the top piece - maybe it will need just more time to dissolve the glue. | |||||

Actually didn't plan to go that deep, but interesting to know there are several types of walnut and rosewood. @kyle-barrett: I will come up with pictures of my chairs as soon as they are ready. | |||||
