| Lovely, no? Thanks for the "link" -- I saw a video piece on PBS not too long ago, but didn't retain his name. He was using a nice little pin-table device to produce zig-zag wire for a gear wheel. He goes back to Calder's earliest crank-operated kinetics. (Ever use a Houdaille [?] wire and rod-bending brake -- lever-operated steel disc with movable pins and spring-loaded "shoe"? -- fun! ) My favorite kinetic sculptor, after Calder, was George Rickey (I haven't thought to Google him) -- wonderful stuff, lots of it outdoor work with stainless steel component ... | |||||

| Make that "two+ of the six. . .planes." Even better; a 'wrap' of floor, one wall, and ceiling, with other maple objects (cabinetry) and grey stone and paint. I like it; to me, yet another color for a major surface unnecesarily shatters composition. But, that's just one way of looking at it. You didn't describe the style/age of the structure. . . | |||||

| Arguing to argue It has nothing to do with having respect...That's silly to even think that it does.(your also the only one complaining about my lack of time involved in grammar correction and started taking it personal) Your also still going on about it, are you arguing for the sake of arguing? If so you made your point. Happy? Reading Minds is also Part of the design business. didn't you know that? You should be use to it. | |||||

| Fun Fact Judd was an art critic before he became a practicing fine artist. In his role as critic he didn't see any sculpture of high modernism. In the tours at Marfa...they call this frustration (and Judd's orneriness) the impetus for his move to art making. | |||||

| . Hi SDR. The Z4 is a Bmw that replaced the Z3. I believe that the new Corvette is a Z6. Most Bmw's are still available with a manual transmission, thank god (except for the 745i). In the states, Mercedes offers a manual only on their C-class model. I test drove an Audi S8 with the new variable transmission..no shift points..didn't like it a bit. Give me a manual transmission any old day. | |||||

| ... I like it!... Knoll re-introduced or brought forth from the archives the Bertoia Chaise... WOW... This thing is the shiznit! What a fabulous pice of sculpture! You think the La Chaise is great... This is a WINNER for Knoll... They also had the Saarinen dining chair with wood legs instead of metal... This is the legged chair with arched opening in the seat back, not the tulip... Looks good! Knoll's Chadwick office chair is nice somehow got sidetrack and didn't get to sit in it... Think I like the Life better... Life has a really nice scale... Haworth's Zod ... | |||||

| ... best advice I was given I received when he was aged 2 and already in the 110th percentile for height. It was given me by the parents of a 6'9" h.s. basketball player. They said be extra protective of your tall kid, because people are always going to expect him to be more emotionally mature than he actually is. I didn't think much about it at first, but I now realize it is unbelievably true. In the heat of combat, even I find myself expecting my tall kid to be capable of more mature behavior than is appropriate to his age. And in a grocery store, restaurant ... | |||||

| Loewy, Lotus and the Missed Avanti koen, I can feel my mind expanding. Ray-Lo did a stitcher called a Lotus? I have to see one. Please post a link. My first conscious awareness of Loewy design, or any design, was when I was a little boy circa 1964 and my dentist neighbor brought home a Studebaker Avanti to offer to his wife as a birthday present. To that moment, another neighbor's red '62 Corvette was the definitive iron on the block. But one look at the Avanti and the Vette seemed like a fiberglass Impala. The Vette was a raw thing with a front and back tha ... | |||||

| a few years ago i needed a new car, as a designer the motor didn't really interested me (especially because i had a huge fine after speeding) so i looked at cars where the design was not really for the mass (like volkswagen) but clearly defined; tastefull, dynamic, fitting with my ego and personality and i had to buy a bmw. Must admire bmw and Bangle that they dare to design cars that are not easily to consume like the 7 and z4... at germancarfans.com i saw a pic of the new 2-series; that will be my next car. | |||||

| butterfly chairs I've sat on the Urban Outfitter and Crate and Barrel butterfly chairs and didn't find them comfy or sturdy at all. However, I did sit on a vintage butterfly chair made of heavy iron (did not fold) and leather, and it was, much to my surprise, very comfortable. WWW.CIRCA50.COM sells these kinds of chairs. | |||||

| ... style, utility, quality and affordability. Frank Gehry did it in the 70's with his edgeboard furniture - for six motherloving months! Then he took it off the market. It sold too well. Chairs sold for *$30* according to my little brown hardcover copy of NOMADIC FURNITURE. But Frank said he didn't want to be known only for furniture design. He said he was an architect first. Yeah well I'm stuck with his P.O. Nasty S. EMP Music Center here in Seattle, where his S-curve edgeboard chair now goes for $999 a pop, and.. I'm losing my monorail of thought in ... | |||||
