| If you use a certain song to... If you use a certain song to help sell a product to a particular market, then that songwriter/performer deserves to be paid for their services. If you use a certain piece of designer furniture to sell a product to a certain market, why is that any different? Is there a legit reason for this? But, I guess if you had to do that you'd need to pay Gap royalties for wearing their jeans in the commercial, or Restoration Hardware for the doorknobs in the background, or Angela Adams for her rug on the floor ..... it could go on foreve ... | |||||

| ... I don't expect people to agree with me, nor do I ask for validation. If you didn't agree with me on my original posting I didn't expect you to change your views. But, YES I have purchased things from sellers who were aware of the value, believe it or not. It's not insane to sell something to someone who sees it for more than just a dollar sign. Crazy world. | |||||

Some of the water marks have stained the wood pretty good, and I didn't want to sand too much of the patina off. More than anything I just wanted to seal and protect it from any more damage.

| Details "I don't believe the nails on the middle support to be original" Yes they are. You have a real vintage Herman Miller bench. "If it was a vintage bench then it diDN'T have a foil label." Not true. I've seen vintage Nelson benches marked with both versions of the rectangular label, the round medallion as well as paper H.M. labels stapled to the bottom. It's very common to see them without any label or marking as well. I'd hold off on refinishing it until you decide how you want to use it. I like a nice patina on my stuff, and even a little extra "love" ... | |||||

| lemon oil I just now had to get some sticker goo off a new acrylic shower stall. Rubbing alcohol didn't do it so I grabbed some lemon oil furniture polish stuff that i get at the supermarket. The goo came off instantly. It took longer to soak through the remaining paper but that came off, too. | |||||

So my knowledge was a bit overwhelming for her. Four in our group were more of the Southern Living/Martha Stewart style and just didn't really get it, but the other four were Mid-Century queens and we had a hoot looking under every chair...

| Shit, you guys are scaring... Shit, you guys are scaring me. My sweat doesn't come out orange, rather it just stains orange. What's weird is that the other person I found with the same problem is my fiance (are our kids screwed?). I don't sweat a lot really. It's just that when I do, it ruins my shirts, and apparently, my sofa. Should I really do to the doc? Are you serious? What the hell??!!! It's been this way for years. In classic DA fashion, I just didn't care until it compromised the condition of my furniture. Is this really so weird? | |||||
| Retail terms | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| Retail terms WHC, sorry I didn't see this question. A buyer that is designated as a container buyer usually has more than one retail outlet and plenty of warehouse space. They must meet the manufacturers' minimum order requirements for containers. These requirements differ by each manufacturer, of course, but they usually involve multiples of each piece. (i.e. you have to order not just one of the blue couch, but four). The stocking dealer is a smaller retailer who can meet an order minimum designated by a manufacturer, usually somewhere between 2 and 8 t ... | |||||

Though he has become a popular icon, 50 years after his death, and is rightly seen as some kind of Father of Modernism, his "brand" is clearly off the main path, and by bragging that he had a wider influence than may have been the case, he spoiled for many the strength of his own legend -- I believe.
| Long Term | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| Long Term I was thinking more in the long term, say 40 years from now, to whom will the distinction fall? As you are aware, the more removed we become from an era, the more we tend to think and perceive in sound bytes (bites?), except for connoisseurs of said era. Hence, Erte has become the Father of Art Deco. Stickley has become the Father of Arts and Crafts. Obviously, others, cousins, mothers, brothers, to use your analogy, created important works during those eras, yet they didn't "win" the title. They didn't become "The One" to the general public o ... | |||||

| Thanks Riki I sort of thought that about the library table (based on your prior comments re: repros) but my fingers and brain didn't quite coordinate with each other when I asked that. As for the square table, I will get some detailed photos - it does have some very interesting detail, although it seems to me like it's somewhat primitive, or home-made, maybe Arts & Crafts era? It's not very sturdy at all, which is why I raised my eyebrows when you said "work table" - although maybe if it's just pincushions and teacups, and an occasional scotch glass (oh! an ... | |||||

| Descriptions Back in the day when people had libraries in their homes, the table in that room was either square or rectangular and it had either no stretchers or one long stretcher down the middle so it didn't get in the way of people's feet when they sat there to read. As less and less people began to have libraries, they started using these long old library tables against a wall in the hall or behind their sofa. The rectangular ones are usually not wide enough to use in the dining room. So you could call yours a hall table or library table or even an occ ... | |||||
