The training thing has been... The training thing has been going on for quite some time, although I suppose that there is only so much value that you can train or motivate a minimum wage earner to spot. That being said, I no longer tend to pick up things at thrift stores that say "Leica" on them.

Strange thing A strange thing about car logos : whereas they have their own writing, japanese cars manufacturers love to have their logo based on the first letter of the occidental brand name : M for Mazda, S for Suzuki, H for Honda, T for Toyota, etc.

the only thing i can add ... the only thing i can add to your frustration as the marble or top may have been destroyed and a local shop may have re milled it, There is a pizza restaurant that had 5 Eames tables and he had them remade to fit the bases and they all ended up with sharp edges I like them. i have that table with a blunt edge, so that might be what happened with the knoll table.
Best thing in a while. | 2 Relevance | 10 years ago | DHutch17 | General discussion
Best thing in a while. Best thing I've picked up in a while. Sibast sideboard by Arne Vodder. Tambour doors with a cabinet bar. Vodder has to be my favorite designer - such clean, strong and simple lines. Fantastic quality finishes as well. Gotta mount that TV and spruce up the décor though.

The thing about the... The thing about the Llama...it's folky. It can't be seen through modern eyes. Same that modern can't be seen through folk eyes. When viewed within the intended context...it makes sense. Tell that to Alexander Girard!

The thing is, this lamp, when... The thing is, this lamp, when it was made, was the equivalent of today's "marked-up-made-in-China piece of junk". Lamps like this were mass produced and sold in Montgomery Wards, J. C. Penney's, and all kinds of chain furniture and department stores as well as mom 'n' pop joints. They were churned out by designers who didn't have enough talent to warrant getting their names on their designs. Nothing wrong with that. The masses needed table lamps and this is the kind of thing that filled that need---same as what IKEA and Target and other stores do today. If you like it, great. If you come here and expect others to like it too, well---it's just not gonna happen.

The only other thing that... The only other thing that bugs me is the semi on the black paint... I always felt the black paint was always vert matte finish. But I won't be able to really tell until I see it in person.
The great thing about "Danish oil" finishes | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | tktoo | General discussion
The great thing about "Danish oil" finishes is that they are so easily repaired. The not-so-great thing about them is that they so frequently need it.
one thing you might think ... | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | LRF | General discussion
one thing you might think ... one thing you might think about take a Knife or sharp blade and a magnifying glass take the knife and lighty scrape the shock mount if it flakes you will know that it will not be long now...... before it needs to repaired .... If it hard and you can see glue around the original shock mount you still have some time . the harder the worst that they are .... but nothing will happen until it wants to give way . the shocks should be somewhat hard and rubbery, It is the glue that gives after 50 years, The only thing that i hate to scare you about is when heavy people or any one for that matter pulls up and tries to get out of the chair that is how it pulls and a lot of blunt force will pull the first layer of plywood and that is wear the real problem and expenses comes in So if you can shy people away from the old gal you might be better off,

One thing Pearsall's... One thing Pearsall's furniture has in common with this "kind-of-Kagan" is the way strips of wood are laminated together and then carved, as opposed to carving a single piece of wood. |
