| Yes, woof, the curved roof... | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| ... Interesting to see this roof covering the entire expanse of the tower in that photo that dcwilson linked. I wonder where that curvilinear emphasis began to fully take hold in architecture - I'm thinking modernly of the Marin Civic Center, and Gehry comes to mind, plus a whole host of others. (I recall Johnson speaking in a documentary about one of his buildings at the Glass House site). Where I'm from, it seems it was simply an easy metal quonset answer to a simple problem of shelter, an airplane hanger for Pipers and Apaches and assorted sprayplanes in a s ... | |||||

| ... Fashion just changes far more rapidly, I guess, but the juxtaposition that we see now didn't exist when JS took the photo...kinda intriguing to think about. Think about all the societal changes that have happened in those intervening years and yet the building still looks fresh to the eye. A testament to Schulman as well as Pierre Koenig! | |||||

| ... Sure that are those that go overboard, like SCS believes, but mostly people are trying to be sane and sensible. We didn't get to the place we are in overnight, and we won't get out of it quickly either. I truly believe that we can live in harmony with the ecosystem, but we won't get there by sticking to business as usual. If you always do as you have always done, you will always get what you've always gotten. I forget who wrote that, but it's a very true statement. Change is hard and there are always people like SCS, who fight it with hard words of stubborn ... | |||||

I mean, they certainly didn't advertise it as a sale for scratch-n-dent or factory-seconds merchandise, but I can see how quality might suffer in the rush to prepare for such a big event. It's just that, um... If you have to let build quality suffer somewhere, don't let it suffer on an item like the ESU; do it on something that DOESN'T already look at first glance like something that anyone could ...

| Hi Olive! Hi Olive! Congratulations! The place looks really great. You'll live in a real Lagorreta? wow! I'll envy you 🙂 Mexican culture and architecture is quite different from ours, as opposite as many could think, indeed is obviously much more similar to some Southern USA. I say this because is not so familiar as could some think. But this can not stop make me admire the great work of Ricardo Lagorreta. I admire the way he use the tradition, his own way to reflect tradition, local issues in a contemporary way. The use of the water in such a poetic way. T ... | |||||

| ok rockybird, here are some pics... now, OF COURSE, they didn't get finished today like they ASSURED us they would, but there is enough done that we can start MOVING BACK IN! So, I wanted to get some shots before we moved all the furniture back in. We are on a concrete slab which was, surprisingly, pretty level so they didn't have to do "much" leveling. We're pretty pumped, now on to the area rug dilemma. Let me know if you have any questions about the tile. | |||||

| Omann signature I can't find any label on mine. Also, I'm told from another reply that Omann didn't sign his pieces. In any case, if yours looks like mine, do you know for a fact that it's by Gunni Omann? I'm making this call simply by the features I can see. On many credenza/sideboards I've looked at, the legs have a slight bulge where they're attached to the lower body. Mine is smooth. Yours? Thanks for the response. | |||||

I'm partial to grape but is an alternate flavor more "tacky"? There are some GREAT methods suggested on that site, thanks much for the link.

| I've seen exactly the same chair somewhere else It's a little different from the Cherner chair in the shape of the back. According to the seller it's a prototype of the Cherner chair. I sent an email to The Cherner Chair Company with the photo of the chair asking if it's authentic. They replied saying it's not a Cherner chair so I didn't buy it. | |||||

Al Gore used to proclaim that there's money to be made in the new energy economy; now's the time to ask him (if he's still around) just what he meant. We're going to need to learn how to make money in new ways, filling new needs (that were always there, somewhere, buried under our consumption. | Design connected to a 'designer'. Starcks juicer is iconic? I would say yes because we all know it. Does not function but will hold a Nytimes in the wind. Not a success but can't say i dislike it. Failure yes. But i smile when i see it. Funny disaster. Daily existence is full of bad design. #1 Driving in New Jersey. I almost didn't buy a recent car that is only 10 miles away.
