| SDR and Rockland SDR: No, I didn't do the repair, Dan Blake did. Rockland: The shade broke when the lamp fell from a table. The thing on the left is the corner of a backgammon board designed by Shahen Pooladian for Zanazan. | |||||

| Yes, joking... Didn't mean to troll, but I guess my sense of humor can be a bit deadpan... Don't have a pair of 30's Barci's, definitely wouldn't recover them if I did, and if I had a gun to my head still wouldn't do it in red patent croc... | |||||

| ... top and the kettle must be an easy pour. I had considered the Alessi Michael Graves teakettle, but I wasn't too keen on a polish chrome-like steel finish (shows too many marks) and I didn't want a removable whistling mechanism. The Chantal opens easily. However, some people have had problems with the mechanism that holds the Chantal whistling cover in place...luckily, mine is holding up fine. | |||||

| Thanks! Olive, that's a great idea. I'd thought about that but didn't know there was actual film sold for that purpose. I really wanted the dark sashes to not be covered, and this would be perfect! I'm gonna go get some! | |||||

| Yep Do you mean like spending weeks obsessively trying to find the perfect '50s kitchen dinette set, then on Tuesday driving an hour to get it, and then on Friday listing it on craigslist? Actually, I immediately didn't like it as much as I thought I would. Then Thursday morning, I saw an excellent dining room set and bought that. So now I have the table I was trying to replace, the '50s dinette and a '60 Plycraft style set! (I'm new here -- does my '50s dinette offend any design sensibilities?) | |||||

| ... from time to time. Dear Koen: You are a designer, and I'm an intruder architect that invaded the design field. And that could give some different perspectives. At a point I could say Saying that architecture is an art, it is widely accepted. You are right, and my definition of architecture is that to be architecture, must reach that level of art. If it's not reached, it will be a building or a construction, as it's 95% of what it's built in most cities. To solve what you said in the PS: " Please do not read it as an disapproval of art and artistic expressio ... | |||||

| JB Weld Works! Yes, JB Weld works great. I've tried a couple of different epoxies, but they didn't hold well. Cleaning and roughening of the surface, and positioning of the mounts are very important as well. Good luck! | |||||

| . Dear Dear Koen: While reading your post after the second/third sentence I began to laugh, and couldn't stop. Hhuhahuha. OK OK, we are not going to convince you, and you are not going to convince us. And as you say: that is fine with me. Dear Dear The-beloved. I enjoyed a lot the second film too. I searched you-tube to post from there but didn't found anything. Thanks. I enjoy films, and this one connected me with I don't know what. The building and don't know what else. | |||||

| Ite--I'm sorry I didn't mean to attack YOU, just the lamp. I know it's bad form to criticize something that someone else likes; I'm an asshole and couldn't stop myself, such is my hatred for that friggin' lamp. Since you didn't personally design it, and it's a highly-regarded design that sells for a good chunk of change at auction, I thought I could sneak in my dissenting opinion. Apologies. I blame that third glass of wine I had with dinner-- it brought out the design-addict beast in me. 🙂 | |||||

| From what I read | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| From what I read back in the 1950's, the Steelframe and ESU were not popular due to them being too cold, sterile and metalic for most modern people's home usage. But, as stated before, they did sell for kid's rooms. Similarly, the business world didn't find them appropriate, either, so they were discontinued when the sales fell below acceptable levels. Some of the steelframe seating, however, sold in office waiting rooms, banks, etc. They were available while they were selling. The steelframe handles are quite rock solid. The ESU pieces were somewhat frag ... | |||||
| The idea of buying a used one | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| The idea of buying a used one when it's still being produced, is 1) to save money, or 2) to get closer to the original manufacturing style of the vintage original. I chose not to go after the Eames lounge chair - too 'iconically' a choice, and I didn't want a lounge chair that swivilled. Then after making my choice to buy a Saarinen Grasshopper lounge chair and ottoman (and having to have it repaired and recovered), I then started seeing thread after thread concerning problems with the Eames chair, I seemed to have make the right decision. Bottom line, if yo ... | |||||

Parents do it all the time, as do Politicians, Employers, Wives...etc. I didn't say they should be removed, but raised a serious question of cause and effect. That is, prior to the funtheory fix, littering and neglectful recycling were an issue. Apply the funtheory fix, problem solved. Then remove the funtheory fix, and back to business as usual? I think a few will "get it", but others will return to poor habits. The real solution is preventing the poor habits in t ... | |||||
