| . nice, I have a couple of old bailey planes from Dad that to be honest I treat terribly but they have that extra something, they didn't come from a 'shopping basket' in an anonymous warehouse. My old lathe, does the job, manual speed change, nothing fancy but I love it. | |||||

| Clarifying Thanks, Foxxxy. Danish Modern, I meant that you should look for a maker's mark (since so often they're found on Scandinavian pieces). I didn't mean to imply that the lack of such a mark means it's not Scandinavian. | |||||

| Ignition lock location was allegedly so that all the things the driver did when starting the car -- buckle seatbelt, disengage handbrake, turn key -- would be together in one place. I guess they didn't care that the very next thing that a driver does -- put hands on the wheel -- happens up at dashboard level where other manufacturers locate the ignition lock. | |||||

| Thanks jdip, thanks, I'll take a look around the bulbs -- that's the only place I didn't examine closely. (I would have looked already in response to your suggestion, but the furniture is in a different city from where I live). Thanks again for the helpful suggestion, I really appreciate it. | |||||

| Yes there are...and I've... Yes there are...and I've been stuck in them all:) I meant stuck in the sense that I didn't make it home for the weekend...Northampton is a nice little town with Smith downtown and Amherst minutes away. I like a nice college town, one of the things I Lille about living in Kalamazoo with western Michigan and Kalamazoo college. Btw, the DeCordova was closed but I did see Walden pond as well as plenty of countryside, I took two lanes all the way there and back. | |||||

| mdcounts you really shot yourself in the foot by asking about the chairs. Wasn't sure why you were doing that to begin with. I assume many knew they were on ebay as I did but it was likely that others didn't until one of your fellow DA's c@$%kblocked by posting the link. Hopefully you went today in person to secure a deal and the person forgot to take them off ebay as they are a newbie and may have forgotten. | |||||

| The fish that I threw back into the pond ... I had the sorrow 15 years ago of handing over to a vintage shop on consignment a complete set of Museum -- servers, vases, cruets etc -- that I had purchased at Goodwill for $65, pre-internet days, before I knew what it was. I just thought it looked kinda cool. The shop owner kept muttering "Ya know what I could get for this in New York?!?!" At the time I was into colored dinnerware a la Russell Wright and Fiesta, so didn't give it a second thought....argh. | |||||

| @Lunchbox The point of the different iterations is that they worked, up until a point, and then the Eames/Herman Miller changed the material. You can't get stuck in a single period of production and assume that only that period is "original" - especially now with someone like the Eames who were *constantly* tinkering with their designs. Would a chair with glides made out of nylon not be considered original when compared to a chair with boot-glides? Or a tubular steel X base vs. a solid steel X base? There were multiple patents for plywood chairs that didn' ... | |||||

| oops I didn't mean to suggest our friend is mentally ill when I said he had signs of being a hoarder! I think it's one of those things that has to be measured in degrees. Obviously the people profiled on the TV shows about hoarding are mentally ill, but there are plenty of people out there who just have a lot of stuff. The people who are on the opposite end of the spectrum would call them hoarders, others would call them packrats----I dunno. But it can get out of control if you have unfortunate tendencies. I know I have a hard time not acquiring stuff an ... | |||||

| ... the nub and the base. This is main reason I didn't discredit it as a non-herman miller repro. That being said, I highly doubt that HM would make a transitional design between 90s - 2001 when the chair was reintroduced with polypropylene. The finish is a high gloss which I haven't seen Herman Miller do before either. The other thing that really bothers me is that I haven't seen allen head bolts used on any repros and this one is using them in the rockers and the base. Im puzzled. I was thinking about returning it, but now that i know what the polypropylene c ... | |||||

| ... that I'm talented, but the truth is that I didn't like very much the things that I had made. The only painting of mine on display in my house is hung low and partially obscured by a TV set. It works better as wallpaper than art, IMO. I do still draw, though, and I like to do small watercolor land and seascapes "en plein air" occasionally, but it's just excersize to help keep my eye-hand sharp. Speaking of opinions, and, really, that's what we're limited to here, judging the success or failure of art is necessarily subjective. What people not versed in the e ... | |||||
