| Thank you both very much for ... Thank you both very much for your replies! I just sent the Kagan site an email so hopefully I hear back from them with good news. The upholsterer did a great job with it although I didn't catch that one little detail for a while after since the chair has been sitting untouched for a few months. If it's a something easy and simple, I'll just take care of it, otherwise, I'm going to make him fix it for me which I don't think will be a problem. Again, thanks for the help! | |||||

| ... it's now private. Also, it didn't really explain a whole lot, just showed the guy whipping the cord through each turn and pulling really really hard on it. He was wearing gloves, which I think is an excellent idea. That's all that I remember about the weaving part of the video. | |||||

| ... I understand your comment about the balance, indeed the contrast in wood enhances this. I think the legs could be slimmer at the side (profile), but the seat is already a thick piece of wenge, it's probably the legs wich are a bit bulky at the top. Indeed, bottom rails would've been better when a bit higher. I didn't make a mockup, just made some drawings (studying the proportions) and measured my body and best angles when sitting at this sort of height.. I have to say, the seating angle is perfect, considering the almost wet-finger sort of study.. | |||||

| funny you should mention that.. I found the marks accidentally when I had taken the drawers out to clean the cabinets. When I tried just putting them in, they didn't look quite perfect. That's when I saw the V on the backs and figured it was to identify the order they should be installed. Put them in order and had a perfect fit! Thanks much! | |||||

| I just looked into this recently and was dismayed to read that a lot of the birds who seem to be only stunned actually die later of cerebral hemorrhages and other injuries. (I dunno how this is determined but it was on the Audubon Society's site so I choose to believe it. Plus, a bird flew into the window where I was sitting a few days ago and I watched it sit motionless in a nearby tree for a long time, which didn't seem normal.) Anyway, they have a lot of suggestions, some of which might work with your house. http://web4.audubon.org/bird/at_home/SafeWi ... | |||||

| ... and going with something you stumble upon is just nature asserting itself in another way. I agree with you about getting out of your own way and letting things go. And speaking as an OCD type person myself, I can very much relate to the satisfaction and/or sheer pleasure that you might experience in carefully cutting out every last bit of negative space around those lines. The obvious time element itself is something that I enjoy. Learning that you make such a huge investment of time to cut each line edge by hand gives the work more meaning for me. It has a ... | |||||

| My best and oldest friend suffers from a phobia. I forget what it's called, but he can't look at pointy things. No kidding. I didn't find out about it until we were in our 30's and I've known him since we were 12, he concealed it so well. And he's a career cabinet-maker no less. Turns out it's not an especially rare condition rooted in an irrational fear of being poked in the eye. I've sent him a link to your pic of the jarred #11 blades. | |||||

| . I too have seen this variety over the years at several auction houses both here in Sydney and Melbourne but mostly the frame was painted in matt black. I always thought they were copies but I didn't look closer, not being a fan of timber and all. Grant Featherston was importing Herman Miller way back when as I had a 60's Panton Chair made by HM and imported by Featherston......just another piece to the puzzle. | |||||

| oil finish Did you buy your chair from an authorized dealer? If you did it should have included a card you return in the mail to Herman Miller. After you do that they will send you a maintenance kit in 9 to 12 months containing oil. If you didn't receive yours, you should contact your dealer. | |||||

The advantage of original-source books and magazines is that they present the period fresh, unadulterated by latter-day intervention and critique. You can see exactly what a c. 1955 or 1963 interior looked like, because there can't be anything in the photo that's newer than the publication date. | I unfortunately did not pay... I unfortunately did not pay close attention when the black spots appeared to absolutely know whether the Restore-a-Finish caused the spots, or simply dissolved/removed a patched painted area that was previously covering the spots. I think it was the former. I have used this product numerous times in the past and never encountered this or any other problems with it. Neither the can nor website talk about the components in it except to say there's solvent and a little stain. I tried scrubbing some Clorox bleach on one area last n ... | |||||
