| ... chairs she was stoked about, was already trying to match cushions, and probably wanted them to be nice. That's what I read from her tone. I don't know what kind of girls you hang out with, but most of them I know don't like rust. They look nice. They wear nice clothes. Their friends dress nice. They love white. They're not seeing the rust. Just the prettiness of the chairs. Until it gets all over a nice white dress or something, then they're pissed. When I mentioned the white pants, it struck a cord with her, and she let us all know right there that rust wa ... | |||||

| adamfowler Thanks. Glad you enjoyed that, hope you didn't run out of popcorn. As for showing my stuff, I don't know. I will have to get the energy to scan a few 8 x 10s, and then post them, and then repost pics here. It could be a while. I've only done it once, when I did an "Eames shell buffet" of Seafoam green chairs, and I burned up half a day on that project. Seriously. Also, there is a reason I don't show much any more, except when I have to. (I teach, so there is the inevitable fine arts faculty show, but thats pretty much it.) The art world proved to ... | |||||

| If you posted this message on a forum where people actually get dirty for a living around the elements, you'd be laughed out of there... Your extreme lack of common sense really is showing right now, and its not very becoming. "Chairlove, OF COURSE you are correct, and what you said makes total sense." To the restoration toddler like you I'm sure it does. "OGD does provide helpful and useful info on how HE over restores. But all he knows is all he knows." To be nice, you're so clueless I can't help but laugh. You really get me cracking up sometimes. I'm stil ... | |||||

| . All such good advice, theres a big difference being getting it done right and padding on your own shellac, which can still look good. But for the love of God, what was that person thinking? You didn't buy it from the old Spanish lady with a sideline in restoring frescos did you? Hahaha, she wants royalties! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19674622 | |||||
| I don't think so. | 1 Relevance | 13 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| I don't think so. I didn't see it in the Pearsall catalog that is online (link below). I have a Bassett chair with nearly the same walnut trim on the front but mine has tapered single legs. I don't think Pearsall ever had walnut trim across the top of the back like that. That would mean that the framing would have to be more substantial than what he typically designed. This looks more like a conventional chair with a bit of modern styling, not a Pearsall where style is 90% of the chair and construction just 10%. http://www.adrianpearsall.com/catalogs.htm | |||||

| Ahhh..... What a beautiful cloudy day out in the DA jungle.... EH... The chairs may be well designed, but they didn't age gracefully. That's the problem. If you call that graceful, then you need to actually look at the picture... She didn't pass on these, and since she has them in her possession, she needs to to the right thing, and sell them. I mean, protect them... Rosewood is somewhat right, but is completely wrong in telling you vintage metal is weaker than newer metal. He's 180 degrees wrong. Vintage metal is by far stronger than newer metal. The older ... | |||||

| You offered your standard narrow minded answer like always. Why didn't you hijack Panic's thread on the Eames lounge chair he's restoring since you take such a strong stance on anti-restoration? Since you stand up for all things original. "Get off of your "pissing match" mentality." I agreed that if they were just stained, to clean them. I agreed with you, but that's not always the case. My whole comment was based off "if" these are beyond just wiping down for someone who wants to own them for 20 years, with limited future involvement of their health conditi ... | |||||

| Are You sure it didn't have a wood top before it had a travertine top? Lane marked it underneath, and Lane was very rigorous about marking everything, so if it isn't marked, I am guessing that is because it lost the marked part. And if I wanted another, I'd get a wood topped one and go down to the local counter top fabricators and get them to make a travertine top for it. | |||||

| It's very gratifying to see a long argument/discussion end on that kind of note. I didn't follow the whole tway, as buying/selling isn't my thing. My loss, I'm sure. But I went back and copied something Mark wrote, because it's been true, again and again, in my own life: "We so dislike in others, what we so dislike in ourselves." Thanks, guys and gals. This is a great forum. | |||||

| There are some Pearsall... There are some Pearsall designs I like but honestly most of them kind of turn me off. Someone (many) have said good design is a combination of aesthetics and functionality. In my very much laymans mind there's too much fashion/fad and not enough aesthetics in most Pearsall pieces. That may not make any sense to anyone else but that's what came to mind reading the thread title. Another thing is didn't Pearsall come pretty late to the game? I mean isn't he a generation or two after a lot of prominent MCM designers. | |||||

I have a question of my own - how do you get the aluminum rim off the chair? My upholsterer couldn't figure it out and didn't want to risk damaging it, so I'm attempting to tear it down myself in frustration... | |||||

| doesn't every collector go through that stage? Your story reminds me of when I first started caring about getting some cool stuff for an empty house. I didn't know any names or designers, and just went with fun shapes and lines and colors that I enjoyed. I won a few and lost a few when it came to finding out what stuff was. There was definitely a time when I didn't know the difference between knock-offs or a higher end stuff. It was all just fun, and I didn't really care at that time. I miss those days of innocently buying stuff like a big ridiculous Eames-i ... | |||||
