| Posted by: cdsilva Picked up a Mogens Kold teak dining set today: a circular extension table with butterfly leaves, but with only three chairs. Apparently there might be a fourth buried in the warehouse somewhere, but it's out of sight for now. The table was previously refinished with a lacquer top coat. While I prefer oil finishes, I'll probably leave this as is, since I will not keep it.First time I've seen a butterfly extension firsthand. The leaves hide nicely within the rails, then rotate around a metal pipe before spreading its wings. I prefer the draw leaf design for extension tables, due to avoiding the split in the middle of the top. But the mechanical nature of this design is nice as well. The chairs are documented in old ads as model MK-175, designed by Arne Hovmand Olsen. The table has a Mogens Kold label, but I have yet to find a model number or definitive proof of the designer. I might give it up to a year to find a solo chair to make a set of four, but the odds are always tough going that route. @cdsilva. 5 years later. Went searching the Forum for Mogens Kold. Very frustrating, as almost zero images have survived the various changes over the last few years. For some unfathomable reason the image of your recently acquired MK table and chairs did. I know you mention that you would not be keeping them but for future reference or for anybody doing a Mogens Kold/ Arne Hovmand Olsen search ,I can tell you that what appears to be your table is Model 216. Found the info on Mats Linder's site where he has posted an MK catalogue ( in German). Link to that page for anyone who is interested. http://www.matslinder.no/2016/01/06/mogens-kold/ ps. interesting that he posted this on his site 3 days after your post on DA ! | I don't think a surface needs much more functionality, do you? It's multifunctional by nature, it can be leaned against, written on, hold drinks or house a lamp? I feel anyone designing objects now should be considering that their design needs to be trying to dodge landfill for as long as practically possible. Perhaps think about its future without a supporting piece of furniture (the sofa)? Once the sofa goes to landfill does the user need to bin your design too? Could it still be functional when they have no sofa? Some of the least timeless furniture is the stuff that is made unecessarily specific. So, I'd beg you not put a cutout in it as a cup holder. Nor an LED strip. No need for an inset mousepad. No built in fan or vibrating pad to it, so it functions as an arm massager. | |||||

| @cdsilva. Randomly checking something on DA today and came accross your post about "bullet " shaped desk. 9 years later !! .Is this a record? You most probably do not have the desk anymore. | I actually sold the one that I had posted about 9 yrs ago, but found another one a couple of years later, which we still have. I found the Sola reference on Mats’ website sometime in between the two desks. | |||||

| @bj Wow, nice one! It's amazing that Braun was able to make products in the 70s that look like 70s design but still have nothing of what is somehow disturbing about 70s design. These clean lines are very beautiful, and although orange is not necessarily my color, it goes wonderfully with this coffee machine. I'm very impressed. And I'm also impressed by the prices they sell for today. But at least as important, since I'm a coffee guy: How's the coffee? | |||||

| Enjoying this Braun KF20 for the first time. Bought it several years ago but it was so clean I've always been reluctant to use it. I'm happy the scare is over and it can stand proudly in the kitchen, now. | |||||

| @browkin - They look superb. What did you have to do with regard to restoration? | |||||

| @herringbone: Just wood refurbishing and changing the paper cord. | |||||

| Hi Herringbone, Thanks for the compliments! In the past I had a lot of Braun items (mostly audio), mainly in white which indeed has lots of appeal for its austerity. I still shave with an old model. As you mention this model is somewhat different. And indeed, normally I stay away from these obvious colors. Coffee is good! I read somewhere that it was awful, but I guess that was more of a comment to these automatic drip machines in general. And as I am kind of used to this type of coffee I can say it delivers. | I was lucky to purchase that set of 6 Niels Moller chairs, model 78 in rosewood. Find of the year, despite it wasn’t cheap. I am happy it went through my hands. Just finished the restoration. Kind of find of the year for me. 🙂 Attachment: IMG_0895.jpeg Attachment: IMG_0896.jpeg | |||||

| I grew up with these as our dinning table chairs ( rosewood/ Black leather). We actually played "castle" under them as the entrances! The back horns have no affect on usability or comfort as the curvature of the back is just what is needed. The seat "horns or bumps " make exiting a straight up and down affair. Sliding out of them as round as the bumps are might affect your popliteal. Attachment: Møller-desk-chair-curvy.jpg | |||||

| @browkin Perhaps my favorite Moller model for appearance! That's some nice work you've done on the chairs (and exceptionally good photography, too, btw). I hope you realize an appropriate return on your investment! I have yet to actually sit on one of them, but I've wondered how the "horns" atop the front legs affect comfort. If I had a set for use in my home, I suspect I might be tempted to shave them off despite my usual desire to keep vintage pieces as close to original as possible. | |||||
