| I see what you mean, I thought maybe that the back had been elongated for comfort by the person reupholstering them. The photos are all of the same chair! I didn't take any of the second chair. The backs of both look exactly the same, bumpy. So Spanky you don't think the chairs originally may have had a shorter backrest? | |||||

| SDR, if you look at one of the pictures in the first post, from k2modern, you see that the trim angles down and away from the top surface. I'm not really sure why I didn't consult this when applying the new stuff... just seemed natural and nicer looking angled up? When I saw his picture again, I thought, 'Weird, they must have put it on upside down..." heh. Anyway, doesn't matter to me. Thanks! | |||||

| An update for those interested: the chair sold for $1300 plus commission. Also, I checked my Oda Danish Chairs book, and it turns out both Niels Roth Andersen and Soren Horn produced the 48 chair as well. Apparently, Baker didn't make the cut for Oda. | |||||

| Wait a sec---are you sure it needs spring loops? Have you removed the fabric on the seat frame yet? It looks like it might by a Yugoslavian-made chair and they did use spring coils but theirs were often just bare springs with no vinyl coating at all. I used to have a lot of them but I gave them away. The ones I had didn't have a lot of tension in them and made for a very saggy seat. If this is indeed a Yugoslavian chair, I would just use conventional elastic webbing (2" wide) and staple it to the seat frame with a pneumatic stapler. These chairs are not ... | |||||

| ... and also saw there were two wholes, one on each opposing side from the spring loops. Are those original too and is was it just a dowel, or did someone put that in afterwards when the coils were probably becoming weak? I just uploaded photos. Sorry should've been sooner. Another follow up question..The chair didn't come with the original cushions, so someone had one custom made for a pillow. It isn't very firm and doesn't have a very defined shape. If I plan on having new ones made, the cushions are still foam, batting and upholstery fabric, correct? I ask b ... | |||||

| I've had many great hits but a couple of my faves: Wegner J16 for $15 at auction (actually I almost missed it because someone was talking at me and i didn't notice the auctioneer started down the row in the other direction--he was already several bids in when I happened to look over that way!) Two Panton flowerpot light fixtures, orange, brand new in original boxes for $3. I sold both for around $300 each--kinda wish I'd kept one but they don't really go well with my other stuff so i guess it's ok. I've missed plenty of stuff but the latest one kind of rank ... | |||||

Lacquer will start to dissolve within 5-10 seconds and the Qtip will come up brownish at the very least. If that doesn't do it, you could test for shellac the same way with alcohol, but i doubt it's shellac. If it's varnish, neither of those two solvents will dissolve it. I've refinished a few Plycraft chairs and they were varnished. I had to use mehtylene chloride stripper on them. Yech. But anyway, you ...

| I saw the same chair in a lounge area at Nordstrom. I wasn't sure it was the same one so I didn't turn it over (and risk glares from Nordstrom sales associates) but next time I'm there I will look. Pretty sure it's exactly the same. The frame looks more like round rod in the TV commercial--the Nordstrom chair was definitely a square profile rod. Either way, theirs is a new production chair, not vintage. They don't vintage furniture there. | |||||

I didn't feel like Rutili to me. the legs just didn't seem right. I was considering calling Peter for an estimate but I usually like to have as much information before calling, If this is a Frankl I would think it would be after his sky-scrapper line and before his cork furniture. Looks like a transitional period. Thanks again.

| I found a Kodawood sofa & matching chair a couple weekends ago. I didn't post a picture of the chair because it was disassembled when I found it and I have already taken the base to my wood guy to refinish. The fabric is original on both pieces but is faded in some areas so I'm going to have them reupholstered. The sofa is getting disassembled today so I can have my wood guy refinish the chair and sofa exactly the same. I will post a picture of the set after they are refurbished. Peruche | |||||

As Leif mentions, the owner, Elmo Nielsen, seemed to be more interested in burning the furniture, than producing them. He didn’t really have the skills to be an arsonist, but in the 6th try, he finally “succeeded” in burning the factory down. He then pursued new career opportunities in jail. You can see pictures of his “refurbishment” here http://www.tikobkommune.dk/3,--gurreholm-.html (site in danish) I can’t find an ...
