Whats a few enemies between | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Eameshead | Off topic
Whats a few enemies between friends? Gotta love politics. At least I was appropriately "off topic"? SDR, and possibly others, I hope I didn't bore you to sleep with my political haiku rants. I've quit worrying if friends or brother in law might like the Donald. I know its no better on the Dem's side but jeeze... The only thing worse than Super Tuesday was the Oscars. Variety shows were dumped 30 years ago for a reason. Cheer up! Good morning. Its still dark on the left coast.

We would never declaw a cat, | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | difeliciantonio | General discussion
We would never declaw a cat, plus both of our cats are indoor/outdoor as they have to go and protect their turf. But they do have both hanging rope wrapped boards and cardboard scratching post for them. We tried the spray bottle but it didn't really help They are super domesticated, around 5 years old each, as both were bottle fed from about 5 days old, when we found them them abandoned in the bushes with eyes still closed and covered in ants. This is the only bad thing they do, they don't tear up carpet or spray or do any other reckless behavior besides the ...

... back corners of my J16. The back rail is deep, which makes a big difference at the ends of it. It's been awhile so I'm not sure I remember exactly what was so frustrating--I think it was that the cord didn't want to stay put on the underside of the rail in the first few rounds? Or maybe it just looked really wrong? I remember trying several different things and nothing looked right. Finally I just plunged ahead as if that's how it was supposed to be and pretty soon it looked right. It was just very different from a wishbone. Caleb James shows how to ...

... look handy. This is an excellent video about the wishbone chair in general, with some chord work around 10:30. They seem to use the same technique as Benny. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJm07V0v6TI The Caleb James series is great and really thorough. The way he straps the chair down is so simple, and the pre-loading technique with the shuttle is the way I'd try it too. I was really surprised to see the rungs moving as he pulled the chord tight. Wow. You mentioned cleaning the chord with soap flakes before redoing it. I hope you don't mind me posting thi ...
Mini, it's all experience. | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | tktoo | General discussion
Mini, it's all experience. When I was in art school, I had a part-time gig in a one-man frame shop helping out with drudge work. The long-time proprietor was a master at cutting glass freehand. He didn't even measure. Instead, he'd just lay a sheet over the back of a frame flat on a table and eyeball it. Score, snap, score, snap, done. In about as long as it takes to say it. Amazing. I never got to anywhere close, but he'd say, "Do it a few thousand times and you'll be pretty good at it, too." Later, in my museum career, I had use of an Esterly wall-mounted ...

Yes, the REAL story was that Duchamp quit art to take baths. Very dangerous move if Pollock was ever his roommate. They didn't call him "Jack the Dripper" for nothing.

pirx pilot, not sure if you still hang out here, but your "seesaw" was designed by Johan Hagen, and part of Pontoppidan's booth at the 1963 guild exhibition. Also a few more thoughts on cabinetmaker, Ludvig Pontoppidan: 1) Pontoppidan didn't seem to latch his horse to any one designer during the guild exhibition history, like Johannes Hansen / Hans Wegner, Niels Vodder / Finn Juhl, and A.J. Iversen / Ole Wanscher. Rather each year had pieces from multiple designers, including Ludvig Pontoppidan himself (or an uncredited in-house designer under him). 2) The m ...

... there are not many that pop-up second hand is that because they are awful they weren't seen as worth looking after. That blue Softpad is one I bought second hand ($285 AUD) with a view to swapping the leather with my torn chair. The chair with the split leather has the antler base. I can't remember how we got it. Half the HM stuff we have was a result of order mistakes or clients changing their minds and didn't cost us anything. We have a big 8 seater Ally Group conference table in rosewood that came in as an order and the client changed their mind. To get ...

That is fantastic! Nice find mcfandrew! Not much to report yet. Sent an email to the reference desk at Syracuse Public Library wondering if they might have anything related to Gaylord Brothers in their collection as Syracuse was the location of their manufacturing plant. didn't find anything specific from their suggestions but they were very helpful and quick to reply: "HI,--Thank you for your inquiry. This certainly is an interesting puzzle/question. Are you sure that it is a library chair from the Gaylord Bros? I found a few links that you can explore ...

Oh God, yes, you're in Addison Mizner country, aren't you . . . Me too. Sunday, with the sun going down. Last night I watched the Mike Nichols interview on PBS. What a delight. At one point he describes a stage piece he and Elaine did on Broadway: He's a professional of some sort with a cash flow problem, and she's his wife. He says, " It's bad -- we may even have to burn the Noguchi." She reacts as if he had proposed throwing a pet monkey into the fireplace; she didn't happen to know what a noguchi was, and assumed it was -- a monkey. Ah, the heady ...

Glad it helped SDR, At first I wondered why you didn't go to a larger format. But now I see that if you didn't confine yourself to the same small-sized pages, you might have gone insane. ..heh. That format, with certain variables set, seems to have let you refine the remaining ones more creatively. Limits are good. Where would we be without them? Sometimes (in art) the right limitation can unlock a whole universe. That certainly seems to be what happened in your case. Do all the patterns actually repeat at some point? My small brain is trying to understand w ... |
