I would just be very careful | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | scoutshouse_la | General discussion
... times intermittently and works fine. Hazelnut, I'm surprised (and glad) putting your rug in the washer didn't felt it... Maybe the combination of heat and agitation? I have a prized Avoca knit mohair double sized bedspread that was fine the first few times I cleaned it... I guess I got carried away, but the last time I let it agitate in the washer longer and it definitely shrank. It wasn't a catastrophe, only about 4 inches, but I don't think I can ever block it out myself.
powbum was kidding around. | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Spanky | General discussion
powbum was kidding around. It's just an American-made slat bench, pretty common, not terribly valuable but popular with people who like the look but can't afford the George Nelson slat bench. I hope you didn't pay much for it in that condition! Hopefully the joints are sturdy. These often get wobbly in their old age. I'd strip the finish and ebonize it with India ink for a cleaner look. The wood species isn't all that gorgeous in my opinion, but I also love how a black table or chair looks in a room. I happened to find one that someone painted black--- ...
Thanks guys, that definitely | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | DAUser | General discussion
Thanks guys, that definitely helps. I look into the foam blocks. Also, didn't know Home Depot and Lowe's offer cutting services, that'll make this much easier to deal with.
Have you seen this page? | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Spanky | General discussion
Have you seen this page? http://www.danish-lights.com/lyfa/ There are over 100 old ads and maybe some old print catalogs (?) of Lyfa lighting. I didn't see yours in a quick scan but maybe if you look you can find a similar design and the designer's name and go from there.

Sorry to imply that SCAN was | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
Sorry to imply that SCAN was generic cheap stuff...I guess I am use to people around here selling Scandinavian unmarked more generic stuff and referring to it has from SCAN...Most of the time it usually is generic dining tables and chairs and ugly boxy credenzas and dressers...I never got the chance to go to a SCAN store...would have liked to. But I guess I should learn from my mistakes...one time at a local auction around here theres was a credenza up. They had it listed as SCAN and even had a picture of the SCAN furniture care instuructions that were sti ...
I just picked up a floor and | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | MLF | General discussion
... as you can see in the photos, as well as some apparent light surface rust and bubbling, possibly from a protective finish. I am unsure of what the underlying metal is, but guessing bronze and steel (for the long support on the floor lamp) and that the brushed metal look is a finish. I might consider powdercoating or painting the two white, but would like to preserve the original finish if possible. Additionally, the floor lamp did not come with a shade, so I would need to purchase one. Has anyone purchased one off one of the companies on EBay selling replac ...
racecar, that is a painful | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Spanky | General discussion
racecar, that is a painful one. I've been thinking this morning too much about all the things I got for cheap at junk auctions 10+ years ago before all the dealers caught on---stuff I bought to sell that I now kind of regret. One thing I did keep was the long Rosenslew terrine. The handle was missing but it's still beaufiful. I've also never once used it, but who cares! I also got one of these Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg, Sweden ice buckets made of heavy ceramic and then sold it. I know I didn't pay more than $10 for it. I knew what it was, I just fe ...
CdsilvaI, I am on Oahu. I | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | HawaiiModern | General discussion
CdsilvaI, I am on Oahu. I purchased this piece at auction so unfortunately I have no provenance with it. It didn't mean to offend any diYers or take away from the skill of some. My apologies if I have. I am a big diy'er myself and to design and build these legs would have pushed my skil-set boundaries. I guess I was coming at it with that in mind. I thought I should show a better shot of the detail of the the x members. They are wider in the middle and taper in towards the ends. They defiantly show some design work was involved. The straight legs are simple, ...
Joshua championship - lol | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | vintageobssesive | General discussion
Joshua championship - lol took a chance. Not much to lose and all indications pointed to Eames (no photos of underside and at that price I didn't even bother to ask). Easy enough to make that money back (if not a bit more), 🙂 Amazake: if it is a hack (which I thought could be the case initially as well) it is extremely well done. The edges where the top of the shell meet the bottom are clean and someone would have to have mad masking skillz to have the edges so cleanly finished all the way around. Cheers.
Dang Tyler...pretty good 8^) | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion
Dang Tyler...pretty good 8^) and thanks Peruche for the advise. I pulled of the dust cover and didn't see anything, then I felt up inside and felt a piece of paper still stapled, you couldn't even see it..it was on the back side of the frame...I could tell when I was pulling it of that it wasn't much of a tag and I crossed my finger for a clue...lucky! Thanks for the help! So Selig from 1968
So I heard back from Erik | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Reamie | General discussion
So I heard back from Erik Buch....they couldn't find these chairs but stated that the family didn't keep good records. I guess it's a mystery that won't be solved! It would also lead me to believe that they are not designed by Erik Buch. Anyone else care to weigh in?
Thanks Minimoma, I'm not | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | Reamie | General discussion
Thanks Minimoma, I'm not willing to spend the money on a replica. I'm fairly convinced that it's a replica, as I didn't recognise the brochure of the store where it was bought originally. It's too far to travel really on the possibility I can find the markings when the owner can't!
Last weekend at the antique | 1 Relevance | 9 years ago | racecar | General discussion
Last weekend at the antique faire I didn't buy the Sarpaneva cast iron dutch oven (with teak handle) and I've been regretting it all week. Yesterday this one came up for sale locally, also by Rosenlew. The only picture I can find of another one online is in the Rosenlew museum and the photo is too small to tell exactly. I like it. |
