| Finished and on the wall. | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | bj | General discussion | |
| Finished and on the wall. We don't seem to have the space to center this on one of the walls (didn't seem right), we choose to hang it just above one of our pastoe cabinets, between lamps and ceramics. | |||||

| Ah, good to know. Thanks, Leif! Unrelated... I posted this twice. How do I delete the other post? It didn't seem to go through the first time. | |||||
| I recaned the back of a Hans | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| I recaned the back of a Hans Olsen settee with that same weave pattern. It was a few years ago and I didn't take notes but it was pretty easy to figure out, as I recall. I think you have to work backwards to tuck the end in under previously woven cane...or something counter-intuitive like that but that results in a very neat and tidy finish. When you get around to it, start a new thread! I will see if I took any photos of the process. We already discussed soaking time for binder cane in some other thread but it never hurts to go over all those details ag ... | |||||

| Aunt M, can't believe you were in France and didn't stop in and say "hey". I'm crushed. As far as Colorado attire, you need to be rocking some North Face and not Rhinestone Cowboy. Just sayin'. I've been staying away from this thread because y'all are on about Mr. Trump and I can't even. Seriously. In other news, Mr. Big and I are house-hunting for vineyards, (yes, still) and think we have found our True North in Gascony. | |||||

| ... a lot of relatively inexpensive new chairs on the market with the look. I've always really liked it. (Still kind of kicking myself for passing up one in Goodwill for $3 years ago because I didn't need another stray chair at the time, and it had an awful paint job.) Nice work on the refinishing! | |||||
| All of the above, plus this. | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| ... like I had to own all the beautiful things---if it do-able then I went after it even though I didn't need it. I also liked EVERYTHING at first---American modern, Danish modern, all of it. Then I realized two things: 1. It was enough to just see the thing and enjoy it in that moment without feeling like I had to own it, too. It helps a lot that I have friends with a big MCM shop and I get to visit things there all the time and appreciate the beauty and craftsmanship of great furniture. I've also gotten to restore a lot of good MCM chairs for people, some ... | |||||

I can only say that I have edited some of my posts at Wright Chat (the long-suffering receptacle of the great majority of my typing) multiple times, following initial posting, to correct or improve or revise or retract. Hey, if the software allows it, I call it a modern-day miracle. Try that with a phone call or an e-mail . . . ! I love you all more than I can say. I return after five days, without any courtesy e-mails from DA, to find that I'm not ... | |||||

| You appear correct @howardmoon and @leifericson it doesn't appear to be the Toves & Edvard Klindt-Larsen, but I still picked it up. Once seeing it in person it didn't have the proper look; but for the price (and my need for a new coffee table)! I am happy with it. Thanks for your help! | |||||

| ... a little leap of faith. After all, I didn't pick up this Dream Chair at a garage sale for $25. Compared to retail, I did fantastic at $1400 plus shipping but it's still a substantial amount, especially since it's not Eames. Another nice thing about the Dream Chair is that it does flex and bounce quite nicely and that's done without the annoying shock mounts that always fail (at some point) on Eames chairs. | |||||
| Why would HON have a logo | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| Why would HON have a logo that read "hh"? I love to do google image searches. I got the most interesting results with "vintage plastic steel chair" but yours did not turn up. I wonder if "hh" didn't produce much? The Universal Recycling Symbol was designed in 1970 so they're not older than that, but that probably doesn't help a lot in your search. Sorry, that's all I have. I do like that logo, though. | |||||
| Right, Leif---in 1972. But I | 1 Relevance | 11 years ago | Spanky | General discussion | |
| Right, Leif---in 1972. But I remember in 1998 that about the only decent thing they had was the Møller 78 chair. I don't know for sure if they ever carried D-Scan furniture but I wouldn't be surprised. They were selling more contemporary style stuff near the end, too. There's a Wiki page for them. Such humble beginnings. My dear aunt and cousin lived in a Greenbelt rowhome back in the 60s and I visited them as a kid from Illinois. We didn't go to a Scan store, though--it was all DC monuments and museums in 100+ heat. Good times! | |||||
| The idea of fake labels on | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Eameshead | General discussion | |
| ... Eames/Zenith/Herman Miller/Venice decals that are identical in every way to the original. The use of fake labels will obviously lead to confusion, deception, and mis-information, as new labels are cluelessly applied to chairs of the "wrong" vintage by casual participants and newbies (which I have seen examples of on ebay already). For another thing, adding some of the fake labels (such as the red Venice label) will actually DE AUTHENTICATE the shells that they are applied to! Since so many Venice shells were ORIGINALLY produced without labels, not having ... | |||||

| ... I would think it would have to be something more than just the fact that the new ones are a closer superficial match. It's not all that hard to tell a new one from an old one, especially with something this iconic. So perhaps the 2nd generation units are more rare? To me, the first series best exemplifies the "case goods" or "hardware store parts" design approach that was the whole point to begin with, and has cleaner lines to boot. Besides that, it was the first/earliest iteration, and the design simply didn't exist before that. So even though I am a proud ... | |||||

| ... The Problems---to the point that it's not even necessary to vote. Everyone else is voting so this or that individual can just stay home and have another beer and watch the game...or whatever they do when everyone else is catching up on the day's news. Voting also takes a bit of effort--you gotta figure out which polling place is yours---which can take a bit of doing. (Are these people even aware that you can't just walk into any old polling place to vote?) Then you have to actually find the polling place, and get yourself there, and even then they don't ... | |||||
