| Saarinen tulip chair bolts? | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | Fungus Mungus (USA) | General discussion | |
| ... get this seat apart. My question: are those 6 T bolts removable? Are they holding the chair seat onto the base? I didn't think they did except I just saw one of these on eBay with the bolts missing. The base clearly has 6 spots where these screws go in. If so, how do I remove these t-bolts? fm | |||||

I called HM and got a customer service rep. who didn't have a clue after looking at it and told be several screws needed to be removed and I could only take the back off( not true). Does a have an older on with a close-up picture of the back where it swivels? Any help would be great. | |||||
| authentic brno? | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | HP | General discussion | |
| I just bought a flat bar Brno chair which I'm a bit lost on. It was second hand from an office furniture place and I didn't have time to look for a knoll stamp ( I don't what what it looks like) but it looks absolutely identical to a Knoll chair on Graham Manchas site. Are any European manufacturers making the chair? It looks like chrome but I was in a hurry and can't be sure. Any authentication tips? | |||||
| Street market in Brussels | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| Thanks to the great advice from ite on another thread that I hijacked, I visited the Jeu de Balle flea market today in Brussels, Belgium. Held every morning in the Marolles district, most wares are simply spread out on blankets or folding tables. I got a Bitossi-esque pottery vase for 10 euros and a primitive original pastel for 15 euros. There were probably 150 vendors. I'm going back tomorrow! Thanks ite for your suggestions. I didn't make it to half of the places you suggested today. Some of the antique and brocante stores on Rue Haute and Rue Blaes ... | |||||

| ... some of the Basic Storage pieces, and they are actually considering it! I suggested: 4610 24" wide, 14" high, 18 1/2" deep 4620 40" wide, 14" high, 18 1/2" deep 4701 24" wide, 24" high, 18 1/2" deep 4606 34" wide, 24" high, 18 1/2" deep All of the above should be available in one wood tone (to keep it simple), and all should be available either with or without metal hairpin legs. In addition, once the carcasses are produced, then they could either be easily fitted with either shelves or drawers (which would make them easy to use for book storage or as chest ... | |||||

| ... way, I sat on the couches and they are horribly uncomfortable (to me, at least). I felt like I was going to slip off the edges because of the way they are contoured. I looked under the little pouf ottoman/stools to find a label but didn't see one. Does anyone know who designed them? I'm assuming they are high design, simply because of the real Eames chairs in the conference room and the quality of the finishes throughout the rest of the hotel. Anyway, a very nice experience and a nice price at only 179 Euros per night. http://www.side-hamburg.de/ htt ... | |||||
| George Nelson Vitra book....wow! | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| ... some. None of the Bitossi or Meridian clocks are listed, which makes me wonder if Nelson had much to do with them. I do think that the hands used by Howard Miller for those clocks were copyrighted designs owned by Nelson Associates, so there must've been some approval by Nelson. At first glance, I didn't see the Carvel Hall serving pieces, but they might be there, somewhere. All in all, an essential book (I got mine from Powell Books for $101.52 plus shipping, which is cheap but it took 22 days to get it....) | |||||

| @mark737. As to be expected you have managed to find an image match. 😀 The Knoll Antimott ones I found had rounded legs so I didn't mention them as a possibility. German company also. | |||||
| emeco/richard ogg chair | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | chas927 | General discussion | |
| I have a cool modern chair, chrome and plastic, by Emeco. It is marked 33M, design by Richard Ogg. Can't get any info on it, and can't find a mate on ebay or any of the mid-century auctions or dealers. Called Emeco who said it was in their catalog years ago, 1970-80 era, but they didn't even remember it, said i was the only person to ask about this in years. Anyone know anything about this chair, the 33M, or richard ogg, and why don't they ever show up anywhere?? really cool looking chair, so you would think that they would appear from time to time. thanks. ... | |||||

| Today the living legend, Hans Jørgen Wegner, sadly past away at the age of 92. He was one of those guys I never thought would die. His work contains such creativity, confidence and pleased liveliness that he almost seemed immortal to me. A sad day indeed. Eventhough I didn't know Wegner personally, I truly feel like something important in my life is suddenly missing. Damn, we've lost some great ones lately. | |||||
| Newer George Nelson miniature chests quality? | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | James-2 | General discussion | |
| Recently we purchased one of Herman Miller's six drawer Nelson chest's on Swag Leg base. It arrived in the mail, I opened it and found three of the drawer fronts has fallen off. There was no damage to the drawer fronts or any other parts and the box didn't have a single blemish. We just returned the whole thing for a refund and can only figure bad craftsmanship? I want the chest so bad, but not if it's made poorly. Any thoughts? | |||||
| How do I spot a fake Ghost chair? | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | lotus | General discussion | |
| ... classic modern/contemporary vibe. Problem. 2 years ago my grandma felt bad that my husband and I had to eat dinner on our laps on the couch so she gave us $700 to buy a table. I didn't think to look on craigslist or ebay unfortuantely, and as you can imagine, you're lucky if you can get an end table at Ligne Roset for that kind of money. I didn't want to go the ikea route, so I ended up bargaining down this antique dealer down from $1500 to $750. So now I am on the look out for some dinning room chairs, and I don't want to buy anymore crap that has nothin ... | |||||
| IKEA products for people who don't like IKEA products. | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | fotzepolitic | General discussion | |
| I just got wind of a new line of Ikea products for 2009 (Ikea PS collection) that, for the most part, really seem like if you didn't know they were from Ikea, you'd swear they from far more exclusive (and expensive) design houses. Among the more unique or interesting designs, there's a chair that appears to be planks of red wood on a metal pedestal base, but they're actually compressed foam! Another, a very minimalist bench (RASKEN), inspired from African chairs. The design being 3 planks of wood, and it does not even use screws or glue to put it together. A ... | |||||
| A gift from Ikea. | 1 Relevance | 18 years ago | fotzepolitic | General discussion | |
| I received this Ikea lamp as a surprise gift today: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/70146339 No doubt because I'd been eyeing it a few times in the store, (but couldn't bring myself to buy it). I certainly didn't need it, and its underpowered anyway, and uses one of those European bulbs that requires you to go to Ikea to replace. But I loved the design, because it appeared to be a take on a popular, classic MCM table lamp design by Arne Jacobsen. I even (also) appreciated the way they actually made a lamp resembling an Arne Jacobsen design to se ... | |||||
| Designer of Wolfgang Puck's Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood | 1 Relevance | 20 years ago | dcwilson | General discussion | |
| I just stayed in Wolfgang Puck's Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood and really enjoyed the interior of the room. The lobby is only so-so to look at, but it has lots of modernist chairs to sit in and try out. It even had several Eames easy chairs sans the ottomans (didn't notice if they were HM or knock-offs). But the room I really enjoyed. It is to hotel rooms what Puck's food presentation is to cuisine. I won't bore you with details. Does anyone know who designed the room interiors for Puck's hotel? Somehow this designer achieved a kind of LA retro modern that was both kicked back AND lean and efficient. | |||||
