| Erik Höglund (?) Candelabra Extension Rods | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | gjbl | General discussion | |
| ... / dimensions of the ceiling plate (I found an old listing that suggested it came with one, but didn't show it). I know there is some debate as to whether or not it really is Höglund, but I love it and am keeping it regardless. And since I can't find extension rods, I am going to have a blacksmith friend here in Chicago try his hand at making some... if I can get the proper dimensions that is. Thanks in advance! | |||||
| Pearsall or something else? Need opinions! | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | SailsTampa | General discussion | |
| Thanks for link to Pearsall catalog. I found my high back swivel chairs(2139-C). The 3 seater sofa and lounge chair were out of the same home but .... I didn't find them in the Pearsall catalog or anywhere else I've looked online. The wood either isn't walnut or it has a lighter finish that is worn off at corners There are screw holes covered with little wood tabs where arms and legs attach to frames. Seems more clunky than Pearsall. There are pieces of curved wood trim across the front of sofa and the lounge chair - defining the seats. They kind of look ... | |||||
| Refinishing the wooden top of a tulip table / a recent great score! | 1 Relevance | 14 years ago | brbeard | General discussion | |
| So, I know refinishing has been explored fairly in depth here - I have simple question that I didn't really find the answer parsed out for, so please pardon my daftness here if this is a retread.. First off - I had a nice find recently! I picked up this "vintage 60s table" off of craigslist for $60. The tag had fallen off (the outline is still there - actually, the outline of TWO knoll tags is there, which is odd), but it's a real Knoll table, so I'm psyched about that! It's in the putty color, which is no longer made. As a bonus on the way home, I stopp ... | |||||
| Right Brain v Left Brain | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | Gustavo | General discussion | |
| As we talk always about design, art, products, etc, I think could be interesting an approach on the Right - Left Brain notion, that's how we think, but we didn't think on that before, nor is -strangely- not so well seen on design schools, or design places. Let start and be clear that of course we all are both, always use both. But some tend to use more one or the other for different things. I put this here as help me to re-think and re-understand many DAers friends and their points. Most of our differences are better explain under the left-right brian shadow ... | |||||
| Can Anyone ID this chair, please? | 1 Relevance | 16 years ago | wynnia | Identification | |
| Sorry I can't post the photos directly here, so I ran a Craigslist ad and link to it. (I am not trying to violate the rules by advertising on this thread, just didn't know how to post my photos any other way.) Thanks for any advice you might be willing to provide! | Help, I can't find the old thread | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Riki | General discussion | |
| Didn't we discuss at one point last year differences in designing furniture for Eastern vs. Western body types? (A person on another forum I am on has a question regarding that issue). No joy using the search function. Does anybody remember that thread? | |||||
| Brussels Design Market | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | ite (BE) | General discussion | |
| Hey guys, did anyone to the Brussels Design Market at Tour & Taxis this weekend ? I would have liked to go, but could not get away. How was it ? Was it too crowded ? did you see anything interesting ? did someone go on saturday (the day with the weird entrance fee ) ? I was hoping on going this sunday afternoon, so it would be more relaxed (and i didn't like the high fee - think they could throw in at least some free coffee/ or hot chocolate for that price :o) Anyway, I'm quite sorry I missed it - would love to hear some stories ! | |||||
| Vinyl fabric for Grant Featherston Scape chairs? | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | Juleshsmith | General discussion | |
| ... re-stitch them recently, but couldn't do a great job as the vinyl had shrunk. He's agreed to re-upholster them in new fabric at cost price. I really would love to re-upholster them in vinyl similar to what they had originally. I've included a link (bottom of page) to Scape chairs with their original fabric (white vinyl with very thin grey? lines... typical of that era). **You can zoom in on these pics (image 3 onwards has the fabric I'm after. Also put up pics of how mine are currently looking (and prior to restoration). If anyone in the Melbourne (Australi ... | |||||
| Friend recently gifted me chair (Eames)? | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | eames654 | General discussion | |
| A friend of mine recently gifted me a Chair since he was moving and didn't have room for it in his new house. It appears to be an Eames type chair and I just wanted to find out more about it. Real or fake, etc. http://s1161.photobucket.com/albums/q509/eames654/ | |||||
| Eden Harlequin Paintings | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Lebo14 | General discussion | |
| I picked up this original oil on canvas Eden Harlequin "Big Eyed" girl paintings at a local auction a couple of weeks ago. The gentleman whose stuff it was said he bought it and another one at a booth at the 1964 New York World's Fair because he thought his daughter would like them. I didn't take these pictures they were taken by the auctioneer and put on the auction advertisement page. I can't find much information at all on Eden. Anybody know of a good resource to find out about the artist? http://www.auctionzip.com/Full-Image/813010/fp13.cgi | |||||

| Saw a HM Eames Aluminum Group office chair for $75.-However... | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | Tulipman | General discussion | |
| It was listing backwards badly, and the front corner of the vinyl seat had about a 1x3" worn area, showing foam. The black arms looked good,no chipping/paint loss, though. Was I wise to pass it by? Or would the listing problem be an easy fix? The vinyl issue didn't bother me too much,as it is expected wear, but the listing looked serious.Any thoughts? | |||||
| saarinen base markings | 1 Relevance | 17 years ago | NULL NULL | Identification | |
| I found what I believe to be a saarinen stool. It was at an antique store, but the price was a bit steep so I didn't pick it up. It appeared to be enameled metal (not sure if it is aluminum). There are some numbers stamped into the metal, but no label or other indicator. Does anyone have any idea of what type of stampings should be in the metal? I assume this will be a little more complex, depending on who/when it was mfg'd. | |||||

| George Nelson 1950s chair? Surely not... | 1 Relevance | 15 years ago | NULL NULL | General discussion | |
| ... black angle iron base with no stamp, and he stated that if has angle iron with hex head (allen key) bolts, then it may well be a Herman Miller-made chair. As for the stamp, I was advised that the older chairs didn't always have a stamp- many simply had an aluminium sticker which often comes off after time... Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. I'm still very circumspect about its authenticity... cheers, SM (edited by DA - picture fixed) | |||||
