| RE: Refinishing Advice on Baughman Desk and Cherner Chairs | 1 Relevance | 8 years ago | Spanky | Repair | |
| ... it might depend on the wood species. Some softer woods do not absorb stain evenly at all. I used gel stain on some hardwood with great results but then I tried it on birch and it didn't look much better than Minwax liquid stain (which looked awful, very uneven). This is where tinted clear finishes come in. They will provide even color over the whole piece no matter what the wood is. I don't know of any tinted lacquer for diYers. There are--or were---others here who know more about that than I do but since the forum upgrades in the past couple of weeks ... | |||||

| Posted by: Herringbone I've had contact with Julie about a week ago. She wrote me that they will transfer all threads up until 2008 to the new forum. She also wrote that this was going to happen about a week ago. But it didn't, obviously. I don't know why. I'm still positive and I will continue to come back, either way. And I hope, some of you will stay, too, either way. The forum is what it is because of what had been done in the past, but also because the people who still come regularly and write stuff. We depend on the DA team to transfer the old threads ... | |||||
| Uh oh, I did it again. Bought some more Eames chairs. | 1 Relevance | 8 years ago | ScottB | Identification | |
| I didn't mean to, honest. Two black aluminium group lounge chairs with arms. Good condition. The lacquer is coming off the arms as always and the two of the seat front corners are scuffed as often happens - I wonder if Eames thought that detail in hindsight wasn't great. I have two black ones that we bought in the 80s from America when my wife worked for HM. These two I just bought have a shinier vinyl and 4 leg bases - vs the 5 on my other ones. They have been used, but I like that. There is the Herman Miller stamp on the underside of the antler, so they a ... | |||||

| Is this a C. Jere? | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Steph21 | Identification | |
| My parents recently bought a house with this hanging on the wall. I didn't think a thing of it until the inspector said some people collect things like this and it may be worth something. I then looked it up and it looks a lot like the urchin by C.Jere. I couldn't see any name on it. It is heavy! Could anyone help me identify it? And I guess you sell it on this site? Thanks so much! | |||||
| Dansk Rare Woods Model 1636 Crack repair | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Zephyr | General discussion | |
| Was fortunate to find the Dansk Rare Woods Viking Salad bowl, Model 1636, designed by Jens Quistgaard. didn't come with the servers unfortunately, but it did come with some large cracks. The price was right regardless, but now I have to figure out how to fix it. There were previous repair attempts. Looks like maybe PVA. So I will scrape the old glue off as best as I can. May need to try the white vinegar removal technique to get any stubborn residue off. Sanding with be a last resort, and I would like to keep as much of the existing contour on the wood ... | |||||
| Hans Wegner Reproductions 1960? | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | DianaDuke1221 | Identification | |
| Hello, I found these chairs several years ago in a small farming town in Northern Arizona. The person that sold them to me didn't know anything about them. What I have found, are items similar, but the dozens I have seen online all have a simple weave compared to these. It appears that the weave on one is held together by two nails on one side of the bottom of the chair, while the other one has a single nail on both the left and right sides of the bottom. There is only one nail head for each chair on the back rest. The original H. W. chairs look like they ha ... | |||||
| Kofod Larsen Cane back chair | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | wouldgrain | Identification | |
| I picked up a pair of these chairs today. At first when I saw the image looking at the chair head on, I thought 'oh great, a pair of spear chairs' but when I saw them in person I realised the point of the arm didn't stick out like the spear, it joins gracefully with the front leg like the seal chair. The arms seem to be longer than the spear chair rams as well. I haven't been able to find another example online. Any ideas? Thanks | |||||
| Eames 670 and 671 Upholstery Question. | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Swagger XC | General discussion | |
| Hello everyone. I've tried searching this question before and didn't come up with much so forgive me if this has already been answered here. I have recently been gifted from a family member a Eames 670 and 671 produced in December of 1978. While the oiling of the wood and shock mount replacement are within the scope of my abilities, I have no idea what or where to go with the upholstery. Usually I would prefer to keep the original but the seat bottom had an unfortunate split from someone sitting on the chair with a pocket knife in their back pocket and anoth ... | |||||
| Help with coffee table id please. | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | wynnann | Identification | |
| Hello, I recently bought an Ansager Mobler A/S dining table and a set of Paul McCobb planner chairs for my kitchen. The person also had a coffee table for sale that I really didn't need, but the seller "threw it in" when I bought the other items. I brought it home but have not been able to find a similar table online. Hoping someone here can point me in the right direction! The table is glass topped and on a pedestal with 3 arms/legs that are both wood and metal. Thank you! | |||||

| Trying to find who was the designer for this France and Son rosewood trolley. I've only seen one other of these online from an auction listing last year, but that also didn't mention a designer. Does anyone recognise this item and know the designer? http://bit.ly/Franceandson | |||||
| Unique small double seat bench (? ID help) | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | RSL | Identification | |
| Hey all, I came across what I'm guessing is a small double seat bench. The owner said it was a older piece and they refinished it before selling, they didn't have any other info about it. It has a really unique look to it and seems really well made. Has anyone ever seen anything similar to this? Could it be a older one of kind piece made by a craftsman? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance | |||||
| How to remove reversible doors on Vodder sideboard ? | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | Mid-Centurian | General discussion | |
| I recently picked up a Vodder OS29 sideboard with the sliding front doors that reverse to black but am having difficulty removing the doors to reverse them . I've had numerous Danish pieces over the years with the same type of sliding doors & tried the usual " lift & swing out " technique but didn't work . I've also tried positioning them at center when trying to remove them & can't see any type of screws inside top of the doors . I know there are small white plastic spring loaded pins at the top of the doors as one the doors is damaged on the inside & one ... | |||||

| Help rescue Arne Hovmand Olsen chairs! | 1 Relevance | 10 years ago | del | General discussion | |
| I've been on the hunt for two of these to go with the 4 I have and so when these popped up I grabbed them. Good score right? Well, i noticed they were reupholstered but didn't realize the travesty that took place. The upholsterer stapled the material around the back of the chair in a series of three rows. One row for the foam, one for the leather and one for the piping. Does anyone have a recommendation to help make the staple holes disappear? | |||||
