| MCM? Easy... According to the dictionary Modern is defined as: Of or pertaining to the current time. I dont believe MCM was originally dubbed such - I think it was just referred to as Modernism. However, as styles began to change and shift towards the pop culture style of the 60's and 70's people needed a moniker to described Modernism without confusing it with the then modern pop movement. Since the Modernist movement took place at the end of WWII and through the 50's it litterally existed in the middle of the century: Mid Century Modern became the over ... | |||||

| 20 million or more polyprop... 20 million or more polyprop chairs have been sold (every bit of wasteland in London has at least one abandoned but defiantly indestructible Polyprop chair on it)so its not expensive. Who cares? I think you'd care if a grinning Swedish nobody in a catalogue was taking credit for YOUR ideas. | I would still like to think It means different things to different people, and different things to each person as they grow. I was surprised the dictionary definition I read mentioned only materials and suitability, there was no mention of grace. Carlo Mollino springs to mind as an essentially 'elegant' designer, but then again, I have a feeling for his work at the moment.. Maybe it is transient to a certain extent? Or maybe I'm too subject to fashion ? | |||||

| Rock by Definition is Modern Check the dictionary or any generally accepted interpretation of Modern and Rock qualifies although I think dcwilson nails it with the take on Jazz versus rock. But a band that might just qualify as Modern would have to be "Midnight Oil". No romanticism there. Just straight up, "This is the modern world, and what are we going to do about it. They stretch vocally, lyrically, by instrumentation and every other way. Some of the best modern paintings I've ever created were with the Oils pounding into my skull. | |||||

Procession is defined in the dictionary as follows. 1 a: a group of individuals moving along in an orderly often ceremonial way b: succession, sequence 2 a: continuous forward movement : progression b: emanationI think these definitions capture rather accurately what happens in some of the interiors photographed in the story, as well as ... | |||||

| ... static, nor that language does not evolve. The concept of 'design' is generally thought of as a creation composed within material, functional, and aethetic constraints. Design is the answer to a certain equation - an answer that is generally better and more efficient for the user. The fact that the users cannot easily read contractions is not the fault of the original poster - but it is a constraint around which he must work. The dictionary currently accepts "altho" as an abbreviated form of "although" - so perhaps in time my post will be invalidated. A ... | |||||

Although Latin is supposed to be far more logical and consistent, apparently -able and -ible both derive from (interchangable?) Latin suffixes, though Webster says -able also has French roots. Using artifacts otherwise needed to document design's historical record as consumer goods, or for a connosieur's personal pleasure, is simply acting irresponsibly toward the profession of design and to it's and society's posterity.
