| @coastcoaster, Apologies for delayed response. Conservation vs. restoration. The former dictates that any treatment be minimally (if at all) invasive and reversible without causing damage to or altering the object in any way. With restoration, anything that can return functionality and/or make it look better goes. Most professional restorations I've seen have been somewhere between the two. It's easy to overdo it once started. A drawing instructor once warned me that success requires knowing when to stop. There's probably not much difference between nitrocel ... | |||||

| ... over to that corner as well. When i play records on the wind-up, I need a chair, so I moved that upholstered Eames office chair over there, which doesn't really belong there. I moved it away again. I doubt if that corner will ever been properly realized because of the phonograph. Oh well, no matter. I have one Saarinen tulip stool, which I had recovered in orange wool and one Ray Eames walnut Time Life Stool, neither of which belong anywhere, so they float. Contrary to Herman Miller's description, the beautiful walnut Time Life stools do not make a good ... | |||||

| Simple glaze over if you ask... Simple glaze over if you ask me. It's about humane treatments, not grabbing a chicken by the legs and slamming it against the wall repeatedly. Your argument/rhetoric is seriously flawed ... "advocate abortion". I have NEVER met anyone who advocates abortion. I know many people who DEFEND that right, DEFEND that choice, DEFEND thier bodies from YOUR dictations. Amen. | |||||

| Buy the chair and donate it... Buy the chair and donate it an African dictator, Mugabe would love it. The idea of destroying everything designed in the 90's does have some appeal, perahps you could just set Karim Rashid on fire instead? | |||||

| A book somewhere i remember a review of a book somewhere about dictator's Design Style...to a despot they seem to love overbearing overly ornate design. And I agree I get tired of the vanilla rainbow stuff too. Why can we discuss differences without it turning into a PC versus bigot slugfest? We ARE different, culturally, politically, religiously never mind moralities, sexualities and economies. C'mon why do we have to be better than our differences? Viva la diference! | |||||

| Thx, @herringbone! We were away with no internet connection except for intermittent cellular data. I'm fine. The headlines would have us believe half the country has gone mad along with our would-be dictator, on the other hand, and in some ways that seems accurate. November can't come fast enough. @leif-ericson, you are such a tease! | |||||

| . I don't know about that but he did have some very odd ideas about architecture, I think in his own residences he demanded that the cielings all be about 7 metres high. There is a hilarious little book called 'Dictators Homes' that you can buy, lots of leopard print and gold, perhaps like Henry James they can stand a great deal of gilt 🙂 Design and politcs, not quiet the direction this was meant to go in I think but perhaps we could ask Robert Mugabe what he thinks of Eames chairs. | |||||

| ... as possible into a building that is then informed by the concept at every level of its form. At the same time, his buildings seem to me never to quite transcend the concept into being irreducible buildings--my ideal of what great architecture ought to achieve. They always remain, IMHO, ultimately, thoroughly worked out concepts. Pompidou Center, which he did with Rogers, is utterly fascinating and a conceptual icon, and yet in the end it raises the inescapable question: yes, but why organize all the infrastructure as exoskeleton? Isn't it better to protect ... | |||||

Ms. Steiner suggested that one of the few weapons that sellers have to protect themselves against malicious buyers. "A buyer could get an item, then turn around and say to the seller, "Give me $10 back. I'm not happy and I'll leave you negative feedback." She said that eBay had allowed sellers to turn the tables, in such a situation and leave negative feedback for the buyer. "Now if you deal with bad buyers you have no leve ... | |||||

| It is a very similar design to this desk by Nelson but the top and pulls are different and the Nelson desks that I've seen don't have the dictation/typewriter shelves like the OP's. The pulls are similar to the ones attributed to Jack Cartwright for Founders as shown in second picture but not exactly the same. My guess is that it's a Nelson-style desk done in small numbers by an American company like Stow and Davis or someone like that, but I haven't been able to find one like it. | I'll broaden it then, what... I'll broaden it then, what is it in the character of dictators that responds to heavily decorative styles? Why has the left or liberal democracy (often but not allways) patronised what we would call modern whereas the right constantly exhibits poor taste 🙂 I hope thats not too dangerous. | |||||
