| Please dont base a negative... Please dont base a negative on a negative.Just because you have a (few) photographs of the restaurant and you dont see or cant see these chairs is NOT PROOF they were not used.Reason would dictate that they were used in the restaurant.Designed with GIRARD,named LA FONDA DEL SOL in 1961 .You can clear this up by giving us the information /text that states the chair was never used in the restaurant that bears its name(possible, but unlikely)and made EXPRESSLY for the domestic market. | |||||

There are probably places where that action was made mandatory -- depending on national policy, dictated in part by trade agreements and treaties, for example. The tambour latch appears to be a simple spring catch, perhaps with a roller ?

| ... What I am saying is, that when you say "these dealers are wasting the market's time", you are talking about a different market than the market 1stdibs is serving. Yes, those no name pieces are not collectable, but these buyers are not after collectability, they are after BLING (for lack of a better word). Do you know what I mean? 1stdibs does not cater to collectors and the collectables market. If the piece happens to be collectable as well, then that is just an added selling benefit. The 1stdibs market caters to interior designers who are driven by a ... | |||||

They stand to make too much money cutting costs and corners when they plug out the construction loan at a 120 percent of actual project cost. Only a shrewd architect can by hook and/or crook impose the design envisioned. To digress a bit, the land contribution position is also a very difficult one to press a building agenda from because its only 20 percent of the value of the proje ...

| Very nice. Corner cabinets are relatively uncommon -- just the thing for certain furniture arrangements, dictated by room plan and traffic patterns, etc. Where you need one, nothing else will do . . . Notice that the wood-grain pattern follows through from the doors to the drawer front -- a sign of care and quality. By the way, I'd love to see how that drawer works -- given the plan shape of the cabinet ! Maybe it's a drop-down door ? | |||||

| Was meaning the market here... Was meaning the market here is smaller than in the rest of the E.U,mostly dictated by size of population. Makes sense to advertise to the largest demographic. Also i may have a slightly biased view. Most of the items i love and have sold were of Danish origin. My knowledge is a little one sided perhaps so no offence intended,am a proud Brit! | |||||

| Thanks Koen, thats a great... Thanks Koen, thats a great help, I didn't realise enamel and glaze were basically the same thing. I know next to nothing about ceramics. I do remeber an essay about Laszlo Moholy Nagy (?) and some enamel on steel artworks he ordered in the 20's, he had a sheet of graph paper and so did the factory manager and he dictated the design over the telephone. I don't know why but I find this much more exciting than all the hoopla surrounding the internet. | |||||

| ... so-called designers patronise and boss the 'ordinary' people who are crazy enough to appear. with them. I would think that these are a throughly bad influence, if anything. However amongs the dross there is a pearl. Can you get a show called "Grand Designs' with Kevin McCloud? This one is very inspiring since he films and observes (but does not try to dominate or dictate to) people who have an architectural and design vision to build (or convert) and furnish a home that is way above the ordinary. There is also an associated monthly magazine and the first ... | |||||

There is often quite a lot of overlap seen with these pairings / markings / chair and base combinations. Probably due to older stock at the factory being paired up with newer stock as demand and production dictated. This pair was probably used outside for some time, causing the "grainy" appearance you mentioned. Sometimes the appearance gets more interesting, as the original shine wears away. Not always a bad trade off... as long as the fiberglass fib ...

| @tick To clarify my point as i think you are doing what i was trying to say a disservice. There have been many posters who have come here in the past that have demanded the forum act in a particular way and many of them never hung around longer than the amount of time they were complaining. This Mark episode is not the first or the last time the niceness or seriousness of this group has been questioned and yet the core group of posters remains pretty much the same. I would love to see the negativity leave this place but it wont so i skim read it and generall ... | |||||

The chair itself was influence by the design of a wheelchair I previously worked on: http://lowe9.com/index.php?/industrial/crosstrainer-wheelchair/ The project had a set of technical requirements in order to properly locate the centre of gravity of the chair. The frame was also designed for die casting, instead of the traditional tube bending and manual welding of most wheelchairs. The overall form of the of the aluminium components was also dictated by maintaining required draft angles ...

| The idea... that design should take into account the taste of the potential users is a rather recent one. That makes your interesting assumption quite unlikely. But we do not have to make assumptions because their motivations have been expressed clearly and widely published. It has been a long road, from styles dictated by the political rulers and other kings: Tudor, Louis XIV,XV,XVI, Victorian, Empire (Napoleon) etc. to mouvements that are more democratic...and we still have a long way to go. | |||||

| your use? Comfort is often dictated by the manner in which a piece is used. The series 7 is a comfortable dinning chair because its hieght, position and angle are proper for that seating position. The Series 7 chair, however, is not well suited for reclining with a good book. The barcelona chair is one of the most versatile chairs for various seating postions. The wide seating area of the chair and its angle allow for a user to sit in a multitude of comfortable positions. I am also curious about the quality of chair you base this assertion on.
