| Dining Table with Chairs ID & Reupholster Question | 2 Relevance | 12 years ago | NULL NULL | Identification | |
| Hi all,I recently acquired this table and chairs from a fellow who said it was his family's dinner table dating back to the 1950s. I believe him. There are no manufacturer markings to be found--can anybody guess a designer? I did some googling and found the following set that looks similar in blonde: https://www.flickr.com/photos/aqua-velvet/8293471654/Of course, they didn't ID theirs, either. Also, each of the chairs is a bit rickety. They just feel creaky and old, and I'd rather not be worried about the integrity of my seat when I sit to ... | |||||
| Black Dining Chair ID | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | guyinSF | General discussion | |
| Is this an actual mid century design or so contemporary interpretation of it? I was expecting some label from Ikea or Pottery Barn on the bottom but didn't see anything. It has great form to it with a bent plywood seat but it's very small and light. Don't the legs and seat look very Prouve to you guys? | |||||
| Broyhill dining set ID and impressions | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | NULL NULL | Identification | |
| With apologies for the terrible photos (my 3-year old was going nuts), I wanted to see if anyone recognizes this dining set. The chairs have Broyhill tags; didn't see any ID on the dining table. Thought it might be a brasilia knockoff, but perhaps it's another Broyhill line? Am eyeing these at the thrift store and wondering if anyone thinks these are worth restoring. Thanks in advance for the feedback! | |||||
| Help ID Mid Century Danish Dining Set | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | NULL NULL | Identification | |
| If anyone can help me identify the designer/maker of a fabulous mid century Danish dining set, I would sincerely appreciate it. I've owned this set for @ 20 years and I'm going to sell it, but cannot figure out and info about it. I've been scouring the internet and books, to no avail. There are four chairs total. All are the same, none with arms. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to look and to anyone who can help me. I posted this thread previously, but didn't know how to do it correctly, so I'm reposting it with weblinks to the photos. (edit ... | |||||
| Thread closed. Bertoia didn't do any lamps | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | TinyArmada | General discussion | |
| Hello All, I am having difficulty finding information on Harry Bertoia creating any lamps. I have found plentiful information on his production of sculptures and irregular pieces, but nothing to date on any Lamps he did. I probably do not have the access to the materials I need, so if anyone on here has nay photos or information on Bertoia and lamps, I would appreciate it. - A.S. | |||||
| How to identify my dining table? | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | JennK | General discussion | |
| I would love to know if anyone could give me some pointers on identifying my teak dining table. I fell in love with it at first sight and so I didn't ask too many questions from the dealer when I bought it. However she mentioned to me that it was signed and I can't find a signature on it. What I can find are two markings. One is an ink stamped 35 and the second with a embedded 98 (could be an 86 but the top circle of the 8 is slightly smaller if you read it as 98 so I believe it is 98) which is printed on the centre bar as well as both side of each leaf. I c ... | |||||
| Help ID- Danish Dining Set | 2 Relevance | 14 years ago | OMM | General discussion | |
| We're thinking of buying this dining set which is in need of some love but I wasn't able to find any ID marks on the table or chairs. I didn't go through each chair because they were amidst so many things and the seller was in a rush to meet an appointment. Any idea on the maker of this set? Anyone seen anything like it? The chairs have wooden dowels or rods down the back which make them stand out a bit and the legs have a slight curve to them rather than a straight taper. The style of the chairs and desk look danish to me. Sorry about the quality of the pho ... | |||||
| Danish Dining Chairs - I think I made a mistake at auction...care to put me out of my misery? | 2 Relevance | 15 years ago | cada | General discussion | |
| Well, I think my title sums it up really. I bought 4 dining chairs and a table at auction - I do like them, which is the important thing, I know. I feel that they are great quality, but, and here's the thing that's bothering me; they are not the chairs that I rushed into thinking [assumed] they were - and in the excitement of the auction I pressed on...actually it wasn't a life changing sum (£500 inc premiums) for the 4 chairs and a really lovely extending table. I don't have space today to take a pic of the table, but it is highly reminscent of Johannes And ... | |||||

| ... furniture, well-used mattresses, and assorted garbage (tsk tsk) I happened upon a lovely teak dresser with nicely sculpted handles and short tapered legs (rare here). It looked Danish but I didn't investigate. I've been lusting after just such a piece for some time but I have absolutely nowhere to put it here (I live in residence) and absolutely no way to transport it home to join my other meagre pieces. OK, now, you: go ahead and complain. | |||||
| Simon, have a question for you - Kurt Ostervig Danish Dining Set | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | ID Guy | General discussion | |
| I just bought a vintage Danish Teak dining set on CL, at first glance the small pics didn't look like anything special, but a little searching and a request for larger images I saw obvious similarities to a set of Kurt Ostervig chairs online going for $2450, and this was for one armchair and 3 side chairs. This set includes a 52" round solid teak table, 2x24" leaves, 6 side chairs and two armchairs all in GC. A little fading and some light water marks but nothing terrible. So the only thing is that there is no makers mark; I'm wondering if you can take a qui ... | |||||
| Modernica Disappointment | 2 Relevance | 17 years ago | fastfwd | General discussion | |
| ... a fair comparison since the HM lamps are all so old). I decided recently to buy an ESU and the matching desk. I hadn't ever seen a Modernica ESU in person, but I keep reading that Modernica used to make the ESU for Herman Miller, and that "the only difference is the label", plus I know that MY Modernica stuff is built really well... So I let the Herman Miller sale come and go last month, and planned to buy from Modernica instead. Drove a cargo van down to LA from the Bay Area on Thursday for Modernica's sale. Fully expected to drive back that evening with ... | |||||
| Saarinen dining table question. | 2 Relevance | 21 years ago | jay1002 | General discussion | |
| I'm thinking about buying a marble top oval shaped Saarinen table from someone. I have no doubt it's a real Knoll item from looking at other items this guy has in his house. but it doesn't have any lables on it. Today I went to Design Within Reach and looked at the Saarinen coffie table. It didn't have any lable on it either. Is this normal for these tables? Does anyone have a Saarinen table that has a Knoll lable? | |||||

| No worries, I didn't take your comment as having a negative connotation at all.......we were on the same page. On a side note related to your example.......was it common at any point (mid 20th century) for a Danish piece to be marked only with the designer's initials? Or was that just an idea that fueled misinformation, because it seemed plausible enough? | |||||
