| You missed my point | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | barrympls | General discussion | |
| You missed my point Robert1960; if your reply was to me, then I think you missed my point totally. I have never bought from 1st dibs. I doubt I ever will. 1st dibs does not sell anything, anyhow. They represent individual sellers. I use 1st dibs to see the upper end of the market. At least once you sign-in, they usually give you prices. Which is a hellava lot more than many of the "supposidly" honest and fair priced sponsors on this forum does. I'd rather see a high price than see "P.O.A." Whether you like it or not, prices are going up all of the time, and ... | |||||

| A worthwhile reference for high end stuff Yes, some of the sellers are simply grand in their pricing, but you DO get nice pix of some rather rare high-end stuff and an idea of what the high-end sellers think they might be able to get. I often see somethong on eBay and look at 1st dibs before bidding. | |||||

| Bergdorf Goodman at the mall? | 1 Relevance | 19 years ago | norris | General discussion | |
| ... most recent of "developments" on 1st dibs. BERGDORF GOODMAN has now joined the mall. so be on the lookout for a bergdorfs near you. since when is it important for an online magazine(1stdib), or any other catalog or trade magazine to constantly boast and brag of "record" sales to its customer base and not only boast but to also continue co-opting and assuming the glory for these sales? how tacky! i thought this site was about "art" and antiques and those looking for a resource to buy "art" and antiques. i think it is fine to expand the venue of ones busine ... | |||||

| Dear ageofmachines 1st dibs is clearly a good resource to see some of the finest higher-end stuff, as well as gauge what's the upper-end 'going price'. I understand higher-end dealers like Mark McDonald. They have the knowledge and sophistication. They also often have access to the kind of stuff that would NEVER show up on eBay. I understand, too, that there's a bit of greed inherrent in these high-end stores. I know nothing about the fees 1st dibs charges you, but I do think it's inappropriate to sell something online for the same price that you would ch ... | |||||

| oops Oops. This was supposed to be a response to the thread of someone looking for shops in NYC but I accidentally started a new thread. My bad. Anyway, the lady at AIDS was very nice to us but since we were two young trashy looking 20-somethings, a lot of the 1st dibs type stores didn't even say hello when we walked in or acknowledge that we were there. A few of the shops were insanely nice and those are the ones we would return to if we ever planned on buying anything at New York prices. | |||||

Dear Simon, I agree in total to what you are saying, I have no problem spending money on the suite, ultimately it's a case of knowing exactly what I have ( still not sure about that Hong thing ). Like everyone I was hoping I'd unearthed a real gem which would have added to the buzz. As for the 1st dibs comment. I agree with that also. What price Art ? | |||||
